I think you correct. The latest letter sent to the employees home from Arpey had a telling last paragraph.

In part
"As we have many times before, we will do whatever is necessary to position our airline to compete effectively in an environment of continuos disruptive change."

Rumor I'm hearing is a three way. UAL CAL and US Air. Doubt it, too big to get approved. UAL needs to do something or I'll be out on the street again!

Probably for the same reason that anybody who believes in reincarnation thinks they were either Joan of Ark or George Washington in their past life. Nobody was ever "Joe the plumber" and nobody ever bought a stock at the historical high.

What does CAL or UAL gain by bringing in US Air?
