The down side is their pay is below average for a charter company.
In the past, Miami Air has withheld a portion of the salary to cover the cost of training in the event an employee resigned within a three year period. The withheld amount was returned to the employee, interest free of course. I don’t know if this policy has changed. At the end of the day it’s not unreasonable since a type a B737 type rating is being obtained.
The aircraft are well maintained and you won’t go hungry from lack of food while en-route. Good company support when on the road too. Always looking for ways to improve their product, which ranges from sports charters, sports teams, DOD, cruise ship passengers, sub-service for other carriers, as well as spring breakers.
Miami Air had a joint relationship with EXCEL of the UK where one 737 would be based in Europe during the summer and the US during the winter operated by carriers’ crews in both US and Europe. However, I don’t know the current relationship. I saw one of their aircraft in PMI two weeks ago with the “N” registration flying under Transavia colors. Miami Air also performed continuing service for Martin Air from MCO and MIA to Central America.
The pilots of Miami Air have formed their own in-house union. You will need to talk to a current pilot with Miami Air to see how effective their union is.
When they tell you to pack for 2 days, you better pack for 2 weeks. You will definitely fly to interesting destinations around the globe… don’t forget your camera. Decent hotels, and food. Be aware, the pilot group is quite stagnate especially with the job prospects in the US today. So don’t count a fast upgrade.
Good luck!
