TSA to let jumpseat international
Hi guys, despite the bad news going at the whole airline industry, here's some good news for intl. jumpseaters. Also crew pass, as you know it's on its way.(thank God!)
Just got this email from my MEC with some updates including this one:
Your Jumpseat Committee recently attended the Annual ALPA Jumpseat Conference. We would like to take this opportunity to share with you some important changes that will take place in the near future.
One of the first items discussed was international jumpseating. We are pleased to announce that international cockpit jumpseating will soon be approved. A new TSA update will be issued in approximately four weeks and in this new update, international cockpit jumpseating will be authorized. The CASS system currently employed for domestic jumpseating will be used to verify international jumpseaters. Your Jumpseat Committee will send out an announcement once the TSA update has been issued.
Another item of importance was the discussion of Crew Pass. In June, the TSA will implement a pilot program to test this new CASS based system at three US airports which are yet to be announced. The testing will last approximately 60 days and barring any unforeseen problems, the TSA will begin implementing Crew Pass at other US airports.

Not to dampen the wind in your sails..........TSA told us last year at the national jumpseat conference that they would be releasing CASS for international use in 3-6 months.
Don't hold your breath when it comes to timelines and a federal agency.

God i hope not! Most of our planes (FDX) do not have a seperate RFO sleeping box. Jumpseaters to me just means no sleep when its my turn to rest, unless the Capt dictates that they stay in the cockpit the entire flight.

Just to clarify this thread. The TSA is not doing anything to help pilots. They are getting heavy pressure from the political side to make this happen because ALPA is calling in its markers from politicians to pressure them. After 11 Sep the jumpseat was gone forever. It was only ALPA using its connections and spending a huge some of money that restored the jumpseat domestically. Every time any pilot rides a jumpseat anywhere they should thank ALPA. This is just one of many reasons why we need a national union.

You hope not? I guess I don't understand the problem. Is there no place for a jumpseater to crash on a blanket on the floor without bothering others?
