The buyout scenario is probably not all that farfetched with most management types more concerned with ********holder value vs employees. I know I should have become a CEO................

I'd have to side with LuvJockey. I personally think Southwest is the type of corporation to take nibbles and small bites here-n-there strategically...Denver, NY City, Boston and sure up those markets so that the average fares are obscenly low. Consequently, if the legacy carriers do make a return it will be at the cost of a bloody nose.

IMHO, Southwest, is not the type of corporation that will take big, gulping bites at the industry (buyout of Air Tran) especially during this minefield-type environment...one misstep may prove disasterous.

Just my two cents worth, your mileage may vary,

FF

The O'Hare deal was not my opinion, just repeating what the SWA captain was saying when I recently jumpseated on you guys... You're right though, it's all rumors...

I won't go into numbers. Management has not said anything official yet, but we've been told by the union reps to be prepared for furloughs this fall.

Sorry I can't go into detail, but we are expecting to downsize...

No one has any idea what is going on. The company has said nothing. The union is spreading BS and getting the pilots all wound up. Truth is, no one has any idea and if they act like they know they are full of stuff. We are currently loosing 5 pilots a month and may not have to furlough at all. Who knows? Absolutely no one on this board.

We should know something in the next two weeks from what I have heard. Possibly asking for voluntary leaves first.
Also a possibility is increasing the MKE operation with YX parking their long-range A/C.

Actually not quite true....the company hasnt published anything "official" but according to the conference calls as of last week with the union, the company has told the union they want to RIF......ala "Atlas Air".....but I guess the whole situation is fluid...
