Default AirTran Pool Info

Has anyone who was hired by AirTran, and had their class cancelled heard anything? I e-mailed the HR department about 2 weeks ago and they didn't respond. I heard talk of a class possibly in September.

I found a job detailing cars at the BMW dealership and wondering if I should go buy some rubber boots, or just hang tight

C5Skippy,

Nothing new that I've heard, but here is an article for you. I have been off for a week, heading to ATL today. If I hear anything, I will either post it or PM depending on the sensitivity.

I got an e-mail back from JD on June 6th ... no new news, still planning tentatively for classes this Fall but waiting until later in the summer to see what happens.

Those rubber boots might be a good investment at this point ...

Capotec, how do you think your uniform correction techniques that you've shared on the military board are going to go over with your future coworkers at AirTran? Frankly, I don't think it's going to work out very well at all...

Spliff -

You know nothing about me. You seem to think you know everything about me from a few posts in a thread on a forum.

You seem to be all bent out of shape about people challenging you (or others) to follow the uniform policy at al Udeid. Did I ever mention that I had any role in being "uniform police" at al Udeid? No, I did not ... I have never spent more than one night at a time at al Udeid, maybe 4-5 times total. I spent a lot of time at the Hilton and Sheraton in Kuwait, but not at the 'Deid. I was at Balad, and I probably stopped 1-2 people a week out of the many who had uniform issues. Why? Because I used discretion. I corrected major violations at times when I could do so without embarrassing the individual. In many cases, they simply did not know what the rules were.

My intent in that "fraud and waste in the AF" thread was to contribute my knowledge and perspective from having been in some positions that many (most?) on that thread have never been in. The response? Instead of asking for clarification or politely disagreeing, it was suggested that I spent so much time and energy on my career that it probably cost me my family (totally untrue) and I was called names like "tool". Those kinds of responses certainly say more about the person posting them than they do about me.

Finally, what leads you to think that I would do anything like what you suggest? At Balad Air Base, I was in a supervisory position, and in that position it was my responsibility to support the commander's policies. At any airline, I will not be in a supervisory position over anyone until I upgrade to Captain, at which time I will have authority over my crew. They are completely different scenarios.

Dear Future New Hire,

I would like to start off saying thank you for your patience with us here at AirTran Airways. We are very excited to have you join our team!

Some good news to share with you is that we are not furloughing pilots and AirTran Airways is still a strong player in the airline industry. The bad news is that I am still not able to offer you a class date at this time. We originally thought a July class was going to be a possibility, but today found out that it might be September or later due to high fuel prices which have caused us to slow down our growth. A Frequently Asked Question we have received is “Will I have to interview again?”

At this time the answer is NO. You will be kept in our hired pool and contacted once we have class dates available. You will be contacted based on the class date you were originally scheduled for (not interview date). I will continue to keep you updated with further information as I receive it.

Again, we are so excited to have you join our team in the future and if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

LD

This email was send to me on the 05/2/08

Union conference call took place this morning. Furloughs in September are a real possibility with a 20% reduction in total block-hours in Sept compared to the July schedule. Unfortunately, I think the poolies will be waiting a while for a class. I would say at least until early next year. My advice? Get your stuff in at SWA and NetJets.

That's not good news. Did they mention possibly how many affected? With the flexibility that AAI has, i hope it's just news for the day.

good luck.

I was in on the union call this am, too. It was 'up to 20% reduction'. Best guess from the union BOD was part scare tactic for negotiations which are starting up again soon.

When asked directly about furlough's, the union says the company did not say they were part of the plan. They did discuss offering voluntary leaves to offset any possibility of furlough's.
