Default Type rating when on furlough

Hi all,

Somebody mentionned recently in a thread the possibility to get some help to finance a type rating while on furlough. I think it depends on the state you live in, but if anybody has some good info, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

K&S aviation out in PHX seemed to know a lot about it. My sim partner was on a full ride courtesy of the State of California. And yes depending on the state it could be really good or really bad. Give them a call. Good luck.

I'm not trying to be funny but instead rather serious when I ask this. With no hiring and the possibility of a lot of furloughs in the industry, what good will a type rating do? If one can get money for some type of training, I would think that money would be better spent on something other than aviation.

How about going foreign, albeit most require time on type. No type....no job.

If you can get 74-400 or A-320. All foriegn carriers including emirates and qatar, indian carriers are all hiring that's if you want to stay in flying and current until things turn around + the pay is pretty good. 10000+$ for expat pilots. Good luck

EK has a minimum TT

Qatar, Etihad, you need TIME in TYPE, either CAP or F/O.

Indian Carriers only hired Cap's. New law 2010, all ex-pats out of the country...I really doubt it.

I believe there is a 737 type school in Denver that will do their best to help you get the WIA funds that you may be entitled to. I don't remember the name of the school, but there are probably many that can help you with the paperwork. Many state agencies will lie or just won't know about the program and won't be a help (I tried and was repeatedly denied after 9/11 furlough), but years later I heard about places that help you to get the funds from the state. I'd suggest searching out the schools and asking them directly for help since most have probably done the program before and they will definitely want your business. Good luck all of you in need. Please share the info here if you find specifics.

Jade Air Cargo...1000TT and 744 typed are the only listed FO reqs. It was on cl350 and wasinc contract agency very recently. From the level of recruitment KAL seems to be doing, and the emphasis they also place on being typed, I would think you could get a shot there as well with a 744 or 777 type and some good experience.

Eva Airways and Cathay (SO at Cathay) would prob give you a good shot too if you had their reqs and a 744 type.

And if you're "adventurous" and single...if you have a 73 type (esp. NG), you've got a real good shot at Arik Air Nigeria from what I've heard.

Lots of people out there forget that foreign countries have a slightly different way of operating, in that a type and time on type override turbine PIC...things are much more a/c specific, whereas in the US it's more about TPIC. I don't think I've seen any FO jobs in foreign countries that require any certain level of TPIC...but all of them require type/time on type in that seat position.

A free type is a free type. I'll do mine on a biz jet if I ever get furloughed.

FYI that place in DEN is called FTI if I recall. And there is some place in Seattle that's a pretty good deal on Alaskans sims...can't remember what it's called.

To ACTUALLY answer your question somewhat, it's called the WIA. Workforce Investment Act. It can help you pay for some of the cost of a type rating. And yes, it can vary by state. Most government people won't know what you are talking about when you ask.
