Default United Airlines base system.

I have a simple question, I'm an Air Canada pilot that has for a few years heard something along the lines that United has a "virtual" base system and they can make pairings out of some of the cities you fly out of.

Seperate from your traditional base method.

Anybody with the details or is this a urban legend.

Cheers

Kind of: If you are based in SFO you could be sent out of OAK or SJC. In LAX you are reponsible for SNA. And in IAD you could fly out of BWI or DCA

they talked about doing that with nwa and computer bidding... but I couldn't imagine anything further from the front burner at the moment.

This is only true if as stated above, you live in a domicile with multiple cities (and you happen to live in one of those cities). They build lines out of the city for the most part in that domicile.

If you live anywhere else, this isn't true. Obvioulsy, you can commute, but you are based in a specific domicile.

Hope that helps!

There were also trips out of MDW for the ORD based pilots when UAL operated out of the "south side".

MIA based pilots also covered FLL and PBI.
