does anyone know if the debris on the 22L/4R was part of the tire cuz they close that runways around 10pm I was holding over LENDY along with a bunch inbound JFK traffic? or was it another incident?

You would also never take a aircraft with wheel and tire damage to a high density altitude airport to make a emergency landing unless you had no other option. You want the lowest groundspeed possible for the landing.

Sorry, but not relevant at all. That crew did not even have a chance to make a decision to continue or return. The engine FOD ingestion sealed the deal for them.

Actually it was the most basic of all principles in flight - airspeed. I read a great report about that accident and with the engine failure and other factors the airspeed needed to maintain level flight was somewhere around 400 knots. With the high drag they could not accelerate and eventually the aircraft slowed until they basically did a VMC roll as I recall.

The gear would then extend back down. This would prevent a shredded tire from affecting gear status while retracted or prevent shredded tire fragments from coming in contact with a hot brake. You had to make sure this was intact on every walk around. Kind of an ingenious device. However, any current 737 pilot may have a better explanation than me.

Coming soon to a Bulletin near you !

AviatorGP-
Remember we got the models with cloth seats and AM radio! Seriously, though, I have been flying the 37 for over a year and I have never heard of that system? Is it on all the models?

The frangible fitting is NG only...

I guess that's why you get the viewports and we don't... ;-)

Cheers

Only if they turn them into to a fizzy liquid, put it in a can and label it "beer" then I will "read" them all day!
