Question UND (sorry for the redundancy) -- My plan

Hi. I currently am a Senior in High school studying in Istanbul, Turkey. As with many others my age, I dream of flying. However, these times are rough and with many airlines faltering, I have begun to realize the challenges of trying to become an airline pilot, or even making a living in the trade for that matter. However, I am just taking my SATs now, and will not be able to apply to any University until after may, so I may end up sticking out at a local community college for a year and get my core credits out of the way. Yet, I would just as soon take these classes at UND because of the rather inexpensive tuition, plus you can gain residency in 6 months or so I've heard. I am really just trying to get my thoughts together.

I figure these are my options:

1.) Major in Computer Science, with an emphasis on Commercial Aviation at UND. Hopefully I will save up money throughout college, and once out work save enough money to complete my training.

2.) Major in Commercial Aviation, and Minor in Computer Science

3.) Major in Commercial Aviation, and then remain a CFI for a couple of years until I get on my feet

3.) AF ROTC--Through UND

Any opinions are greatly appreciated

I would stay away from ROTC, unless you get something in writting stating that you will fly.

A&F Flyer, you've already studied at a university, and are transferring, or are you just going to start at UND in the fall?

way too expensive for what you get. at the time private cost $6000 but you could get it just about anywhere else for about $3000.

their recruiters were full of @%&! when I went their. I found that out after about a week of being there which was obviously too late.

they said don't worry about the dept because you'll be at a major right after you graduate and you'll be making over 75K within a couple of years.

they claimed their students went directly to the majors. never even mentioned anything about flight instruction/building hours or even the regionals.

they would show you the beech jet that they had and said that if you and your friends took it up for 1 hour with an instructor to do just 1 approach each that that was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

about the only thing that I miss is sioux hockey

are they still telling people that you need to get a float plane rating.

Eric, I don't know how long ago you were here, but after reading that I'm doubtful you even were. I don't know what the going rate for a private is outside of UND, but 3k seems pretty low. When I first visited here 3 years ago, no recruiter told me I was going to have a slot with the majors waiting for me upon graduation or that I can count on 75k in a few years. I think your full of ****, and that your hearing is about as good as your ability to spell. If you had half a brain you would have figured out that all the instructors are here to build time; they didn't turn down the major airline job and 75k because they loved to fly warriors so much.
UND dosen't have or ever had a beech jet as far as I know so I have no idea what your talking about. I personally know of no one with a sea plane rating, nor have I ever been told that I need to get it. The sea plane isn't even UND's, it's the FBO's. I have seen it up probably 3 times in my 3 years here. I'm glad you decided to leave, I wouldn't want you bringing the school down.
