Privitising that governmental organization might go a long way towards solving the problem too.

IIRC, ICAO rules state that the 250 knot restriction does not apply to departures.

No, they just need to create a bunch of RNAV routes for each of the three airports... with alternate ones when weather closes a fix.... speed and altitude restrictions built into the SID/STAR.... It would eliminate 95% of the radio traffic from app/dep tracon's. Of course, they don't want this to happen, since they wouldn't need as many controllers... and job staffing level protection is right up there with pay and QOL protections.

It works well at DFW and now at CLT. You hardly have to talk to the controllers except to check on frequency and get assigned a higher altitude. Of course, when they get really fancy, it will be part of the SID to just switch freq's as you fly along the route... if they need you, they'll call you.

Privatization is not the answer. The only reason it has worked in other countries that have it; is because General Aviation, and Corporate Aviation have all but died in those countries do to ever increasing user fees and departure/arrival taxes. The end result is that the US is one of the few places that many countries send their people to learn to fly in... nobody can afford it elswhere.

Besides, in the post 9-11 world.... how can you possible say that ATC is not a public safety function?
