With the General Election coming up so soon and as much as it is a part of everyone’s life here in the Grand Ole' USA, I can't help but notice the large amount of threads that are constantly getting closed due to the fact that the TOS states no political threads.

I would like to ask what the harm would be in opening a forum in the pilot lounge section dedicated to politics until the election is over. I understand people can get touchy with subjects and maybe everyone needs to contribute with a little tact and discretion. But in my opinion, we are all here to discuss many different subjects with a group of our peers and friends. I believe it would be a worth while addition to the site.

its a violation to discuss the terms of the terms in the TOS or to use sentences with verbs, nouns or the other long word that isnt verbs and nouns... I think it begins with an A though. Adjuctionisms?

...on a serious note (for a change), it would be nice to discuss which candidate and policies would be best for our industry.

No harm and no good. I doubt very much it would change anyone's mind, but most political "discussion" rapidly degrades into baseless arguments without any factual support.
The current dung heap known as politics is largely a diversion from any important issues or actions and is designed to seperate the populace from their money as rapidly as possible.
Yes, the Circus has once again come to town. Attend it if you like, but don't try to convince us that we are actually going to be helped by any of it or show us the tawdry souvenirs.

Our time would be better spent kicking the hogs away from the trough, but there seems to be little interest in this activity.

Just my dos centavos.

At the risk of moderation, IMO regardless of party P.J. O'Rourke sums it up best:

"Giving money to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys."

Mr. O'Rourke has a firm grasp on reality and a great sense of humor.

Here's my worthless half yuan. I sent HSLD an email about this. I think a special forum with all the proper limitations and moderation will work. The upcoming election is an important one and it's possible to discuss it without degenerating into schoolyard silliness. I have offered to moderate such a monstrosity and will delete any or all posts that smell remotely of feet. I pass judgment and rule on things all the time in my real job, so I think I can do this, too.

As a compromise that wouldn't waste bandwidth, may I suggest an anonymous straw poll of our presidential vote without comment?

One vote per member, no dead people allowed. My bet is a 75/25 split for this demographic.

Go over to flight info and see what a political forums turns into with their non aviation related chat.

As anyone ever changed their mind after reading someone else's anonymous opinion on the internet any way?

Nope, and given the current climate and this election will be close just like the last two.

Throw your mass-media hype over nothing, it will likely degrade into a couple buzz phrases and issues that really have nothing to do with the what truely is important. Oh wait...
