If there is something that is done to the jets, how extensive (and expensive) is it. Since there are no aircraft listed as included in the purchase, that would be more mods to the jets if they were going to take advantage of the certification. Or I guess they could go shopping with some of that cash on hand.

Personally I think the value of the slots is what they are buying, the ETOPS portion is just a little icing on the cake. But it's nice to think about while I'm swimming.
I'm not sure how many jets SWA will be receiving from ATA, but I would bet that it's not enough to make it worthwhile to train every pilot on ETOPS procedures. Although they could do what CAL has done on the 73, just hand you a magic marker and show you how to draw circles on a plotting chart.

From the company's Q&A notes on the ATA acquisition:

What assets are we buying exactly?
Southwest, through a stock purchase acquisition, would get several assets of the reorganized ATA Airlines, including the rights to 14 LaGuardia slots. Additionally, we could get various other assets including training materials and trademarks, etc. We have no intention of acquiring any of ATA’s aircraft, facilities, or Employees.

You guys are getting wrapped around the axle for 14 flights a day out of 3400. I don't think it will be a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

That makes up 4 tenths of 1 percent (.004) of the overall SW flights....

What does that have to do with this discussion?

As well, C5 guy stated largest DOMESTIC airline, which SWA still might be even after the merger. But once again lets wait until the numbers come out before we all start going crazy.
As for the thought of SWA going to LGA, I'm shocked that they'd risk it for all the reasons others have stated. However, I will say this...Gary Kelly says SWA is making money at PHL, and I'd imagine they'll find a way at LGA. If not, they'll cut their losses and pull out.
C5 makes incorrect statement, Tsquare calls him out, C5 uses outdated article that does not take into account that things have changed since Oct 30th...then gloats (I know, he was just having fun...so was I). Stud comment was appropriate. Someone dares to point out the fact SWA's is no longer the biggest and SWA boys circle the wagons with change of subject, qualifiers (he said domestic) and "let's wait and see". For a supposed former Rhino guy, you have thin skin and clearly don't recognize ready room banter. I guess your more of a C-9 guy now. You clearly like to call the kill, but apparently refuse to "copy kill". As far as off thread goes...C5 started it DAD! Don't worry, I'm terminating this engagement. Although , no doubt you will take a shot after the knock it off . Was that enough fighter lingo for you?

I know what the topic was, but you brought into the discussion the fact of "increased revenues".

You can have the biggest "Johnson" out there but it doesn't make a difference if you can't get into Suzie Q's pants

Thread closed. Much tit for tat bashing after going off topic and a non-PG13 post.
