A quick look at AIFDIS shows 40 737s gone, 54 to go. Also 3 747-400s gone, 3 to go. I am on reserve on the 737. I have not broken quarantee since July. Flew less than 10 hours in October. At least I have time to study for my 767 right seat bump. But I am worried that I am studying for nothing as I will probably get bumped to 320FO about the time I am doing my OE on the 767!
Gosh I love this business. Maybe I can qualify for my own locker at the training center.

Ie. If UAL paints airplanes unnecessarily, check to see if any UAL executives or BOD members own an aircraft painting company.

I personally think the rapid rise in oil prices is what expanded the financial crisis we're in. When people had to put gas in their cars to get to work, their house payments suffered. And from there the ball started rolling down hill. Now that ball has gained enough speed to bump into everything and everyone in it's path. I recently visited my mom in Roswell, NM, and you wouldn't believe the number of planes PARKED out there. I'm guessing AMR has 60 or so MD-80's alone parked there......along with UPS DC-8's and B727's. It's pretty sad.

[quote=newKnow;503894]In this business, if something doesn't make sense, check ownership.
And check your flank.
I think its more than just coincidence that Delta and Northwest filed for BK on the same day and in the same court. Also, that UAL and CAL are both furloughing and parking 737-300s. Together, UAL and CAL are parking about 150 737s. That will make the merger more "synergistic."
Prediction: neither CAL nor UAL will get contracts next year. Mgt won't give the obligatory 25% contract improvements and then additional merger enhancements. The merger will be the smokescreen for more modest gains to seal the deal. Then we will be rationalizing settling for less and with the promise of more next time when we are united (together).

Although a merger would be difficult, I think it might be better than a joint venture agreement that allows UAL and CAL management to pit each pilot group against the other. I would much rather be one pilot group facing management, than two divided.
