Southwest Interviewees
#3
I interviewed there with a group of 12 people in December 2005. Out of the 12, only 3 had their type. Out of the 12, only 4 got hired, and one of those was without the type, however they had family that worked there, so it helped him.
I was surprised to get a call for an interview, but I didn't get the job, so no sweat off my back or hurt to my checking account. They pulled in a lot of management pilots and check airman without the type from Nov. - Dec. of 2005 because, (my best guess) nobody was paying for the type over the holidays.
On a side note, I got picked up by someone else, and guess what, I'm getting the 737 type now and don't have to pay for it. What a novel idea

I have two friends who just got interviews without the type. One military jets now charter. the other military helos and props now charter. I would say if you have 1500 hours PIC turbine or higher, you are competitve for an INTERVIEW regardless if you have the type or not.

Double A,
Two of my buds here in the 58th (C-17 squadron) got hired without having a 737 type rating. I believe they now have 6 months to get it before they are placed in the pool, I'll double-check with them.
At a minimum, you do not need the type rating to be called for an interview. From what I can tell, it wouldn't hurt, but having good recommendations and the flying experience will be far more beneficial.
I just submitted an application with SWA myself, I'll see what kind of 'gouge' I can get my hands on. Good luck to you!

guys or anyone else,
How long did you have your resume on file with SWA before you got the call. I'm going on 4 months now with no word. I have the standard Air Force credentials with hours ect. Any info you can provide would be great.
thanks

That points to strong bias towards having the type rating in order to get the job.
