Alaska officially furloughs 32 today (05JAN09)

Sorry to hear about it. Any idea how long they will be on the street?
Past formulas from other airlines used 24 months as the normal furlough period in order to be cost effective due to displacements, training and retraining. Since Alaska is all 737s, wouldn't these costs be reduced considerably?

Rumour has it that 47 more will get furlough notices soon - based on bid results that came out today.
Alaska's in better shape than that, must be for contract negotiations
, Any confirmation/other opinions

Sad to hear of more people getting furloughed. Best of luck to you and everyone else at the Air Group.
