Is there a bit of optimism?
A few times a week I stop by and read the posts just to get the sense of the mood. Needless to say, the last six months haven't been a joy to read. Having said that, I think I've noticed a small amount of positive news popping up. Ever so often, a post shows up and says some pilots are being recalled. I know there are still a lot of guys out of work, but at least some are being recalled.
I find the little bits good news about recalls to be interesting considering the stock market has begun a slight rally. The market generally forecasts conditions 6-8 months in advance and this move suggests investors believe economic conditions will improve by the summer months. Maybe the airline execs are seeing the signs of life that the market is predicting? Maybe that's why some pilots are starting to get good news in the mail?
It's just a thought, but maybe the worst is behind us. I wouldn't bet the house on it, but I'll take good news were I can get it.

I think most of Wall Street is waiting to see what Obama does in his first 180 days in office.

After Jan 20th, all the economic news will get a little more positive. The Media wants Obama to succeed so badly that something that today would be reported as "100 layoffs at Frito Lay" will be reported as "Frito lay minimizes restructuring woes thanks to Obama Stimulus." Slowly the mindset and psychology of the american consumer will change, and those with jobs will start buying stuff. Thus the turnaround will begin, all attributed to Obama.

Don't count on it...

Fed predicts economy will get worse
In the minutes from its last meeting, the central bank said it expects GDP to decline in 2009 and unemployment to rise into 2010.

Advertising always uses this type of "strategy". I remember when their was a burger commercial that said "I have some good news and some not so good news". Saying "bad news" was forbidden as it gave such a negative connotation, while "not so good news" was taken as more positive approach. Thus "spin" continues................
