But, it's a former NW aircraft repainted in DAL colors with a former NW crew flying it. The 74's are fenced so only former NW crews or future newhires can bid it from now until 5 years after the Single Operating Certificate is issued.

It will be NW for some time. No one can put a definitive time frame on the single certificate and other issues. I think a lot of folks could care less about flying the whale. QOL is number 1 unless the hassle is worth the commute. Some guys commute two-thousand + miles to a captain slot.

I think he feels it's a waste moreso because of the mandatory displacements (he termed it voluntary.) The 239 pilots they needed to shuffle has led to a ridiculous number of training events with all the bumping from one catagory to another via the mandatory displacements. It does seem like a huge cost?

The displacements are because the MD88 right seat has been short staffed for the past few months via an LOA with the company. They wanted to hire in order to fill that void, as it is the cheapest way to do so for the 88 right seat. Apparently the economy calls for stagnation, though. It will be interesting to see what actually happens when the full staffing of NWA is required via contract what they will do then.
This had nothing to do with "NWA" mngt. thinking as was posted on another thread.
The 88 has been short and we had to move some people around.
Big picture this made perfect sense.

I noticed that some vacancies of this AE were not filled yet.
I realize that the company can fill them anytime (as well as cut displacements) during the bid window - up to January 09.
Does anyone have any predictions on when?
