Sully's 60 Minutes Interview

Initial impression:

Am I the only one that has a problem with him saying "I did this" and "I did that"? It was the whole crew that made for a sucessful outcome. I know he is the captain and all, but they ALL had jobs to do to make it down safely.

No you're not the only, and frankly, I think I've heard enough. All I hear these days is Sully did this, Sully did that, Sully did the other, hero, hero, hero, and nobody mentions the other pilot, nobody knows his name, nobody cares, he's almost irrelevant.

This week I'm flying with an ex-Air Force guy, he's "very proud of being Air Force because Sully is an ex-AF guy". I asked him if he knew the other pilot's name, he said no.

Sully and his F/O did a heck of job, probably better than I would've done, but if the stupid media is not going to give the whole crew the credit they deserve, then I don't to hear about this anymore. The media likes to have a "Hero", I don't expect anything to change .

He did pull it off

It is like the war on terror. No one will ever know if anyone else coud have done it. They will all get book deals, and the longest TV drama to relive 3 minutes.

I agree they all did it but I do not think he is being conceited, I think he is being honest and happy, relieved.

Good Job Sully an,d the crew.

OK the last comment was a little

Embracing the hero was a bit over the top. I hope it was out of context.

I'm not attacking him, I'm not talking about him at all, he seems like an honest, decent guy (and one hell of a pilot)..... My problem is the media, they picked their hero and ran away with it. What about the others????

EmbraerFlyer 02-08-2009 03:52 PM

Man, I missed it.. The wife is stuck on TLC....

No matter how good a pilot he is, people could have died post splashdown without the work of the ENTIRE crew. If I were "Sully", I would have insisted on having my "CO-PILOT" Mr. Skyles sitting right beside me answering the same "hero" questions. They are all heroes.

Besides......where in the world were they supposed to land the plane????? on 18th and Broadway in downtown NY?!? THEY put the plane in the only location that made sense.....the water.

Reading a checklist and opening the emergency doors is slightly easier then making the worlds first safe no engine ditching attempt. Something that was said to be impossible.

Who would be the one condemned if it would have turned out to be fatal?
Or if he would have decided to go to another airport and would have crashed in the city?

If you can't handle it, the TV and even your remote has an off button, use it.
Read a book.
