I haven't seen the interview at all. I do know the f/o (haven't seen him in years, though). The descriptions of the f/a in question meet the profile of a certain personality (type) that many of us have dealt with over the years. This generates many of the reactions you read here. It is certainly true that none of us were there and that there are alternate explanations for her behavior, but trust me when I say such comments / comparisons are unavoidable.

SPOT ON regarding your comment on pilots. :)

That's what I thought until Sully himself went on T.V. and made it look like he was a one man show.............that's something the media did not do, but Sully CHOSE to do.

I'm not belittling his efforts, but the his appearance made it look like it was him alone who pulled this off.

I think Sully has mentioned and included his crew at every opportunuty. The media has a short attention span and can only focus on one theme, and preferably one person, at a time. That's why they always interview the quarterback or the coach after a game, seldom the whole team. I can also make a case that Couric's audience (she's #3 of the 3 majors and falling) is uneducated about the real world environment, but I digress.

Enough with the Sully bashing. They all did a great job and have become valuable ambassadors for our profession. I hope they make a bazillion on speeches and books and tell Doug Parker to stuff it up his a**.

Geez, some people in here are so harsh you'd think they're jealous of Sully . . . it's like they wish they had the opportunity to handle that situation.

The only thing I'm jealous of is the Super Bowl tickets! They obviously did a great job. I also think that the majority of professionals here would have been equally as successful given the same situation.

There have been plenty of successful ditches in the history of aviation, even large aircraft. Many of them military. Land as slow as possible, and stay wings level. Certainly a bigger deal with a transport category aircraft but how many of us on this forum think we'd have done any worse? I think the choice of landing in the Hudson was a pretty obvious one considering how quickly he decided against any prepared surface, but he certainly exercised some fine judgement on the ability of the airplane to make it over the bridge tower, I think it cleared by about 800 feet. Kudos to the entire crew.

He mentioned during the Couric interview that about none of his colleagues would guide their children into the profession- I can't say I would either.

EXACTLY! The guys here with the straw man arguments...stating the obvious, that the water landing was a great event and we should give the crew credit; or that any criticism of Sully for not giving his crew more credit comes from jealousy...are just that...straw man arguments. I've rarely heard anyone criticize Sully for the landing, so how about skipping that?

Anyhow, I've been reading through this thread after seeing a more recent interview with Sully which popped up on youtube where someone mentions this forum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Eb...-0k9ORRULKS5ov. As others have said, most Captains I know would never use the word "I" as much he Sully does in nearly every interview, and neither would I. Sure, he plays lip service on occasion to the contributions of his other crew members, but then goes right back to talking about himself. As someone pointed out, if Sully was such a great guy, he could simply refuse any interview without his co-pilot, which would be totally appropriate if he really felt his First Officer contributed. I wasn't impressed at all...he really seemed full of himself, and appears to only mention his copilot as a dutiful side note, then goes on to describe how well read he is, and even how he invented the term "Brace for impact". Yeah, he makes it sound like that was something he thought of, in the spur of the moment.

The attacks by some here on guys who are simply saying Sully should have given far more credit to his co-pilot are really a bit over the top. The cult-like worship of the guy is a little too much. Maybe the defense of Sully's self-centered behavior has to do with something else, like Sully's laughable endorsement of Biden last year? Just saying...
