Keep DFW Strong, consumers weak
#11
That is EXACTLY my point.
They do not want to sit and wait for hours to take off.
SWA is no dummy, they do not want to go to DFW and waste time and money
on the taxi way.
My concern is if SWA wants to serve more than a 5 state are 2 options.
1) Pack up and move to DFW
2) try to get the Wright law removed.
As smart is SWA is they wanted the WISE business choice,
THE CHEAPER AND EASIER ONE.
A lot easier and cheaper to fight for a law change than pull up the stakes
and move to the Metroplaza Aerodrome.
SWA is doing what I would do (IF I WERE EMPLOYED THERE)
...... but I am not.
I need to defend my turf.
You'all will probably win and send me and about 2 thousand MORE PILOTS
out on the street,
But what the hell... it was fun while it lasted.
I will be in the paint department at the local Home Deposit.

AA,
Amigo, I am sorry for your plight (no sh*t). I've got good friends at AA (some on the street) but honestly, you really aren't attempting to nail the source of your employers situation on our door are you?

Maybe he is not trying to nail his employer's situation to your door, but you cannot seriously expect him or any other airline pilot to have one iota of sympathy for your's. I agree with he non-SWA guys on this one. If ya'll wanna play in the big game, honor the agreement you refused to sign years ago. Otherwise, no soup for you.

What % of the total flight operations of LUV did WN account for before the Wright Amendment?
Were the rules @ the time of the inception of the WA not clear - sign it, move to DFW, and have the rights to operate anywhere, or do not sign it, and forfeit those rights.
If the WA is to be repealed, then it seems only fair to allow conditions to be returned to the same way they were @ the time of the WA being enacted. In short, WN should be required to voluntarily forfeit all of the gate space they have @ LUV (ownership, lease, under the table understanding, etc) acquired by virtue of every other carrier leaving LUV for DFW. My understanding is virtually all of Southwest's current gate space was acquired in this manner, allowing them to operate @ a distinct advantage, a virtual monopoly in the airport closest to the city. It was a brilliant move on Southwest's part @ the time, but the proverbial chickens have now come home to roost.
AA (and others) voluntarily vacated LUV for the ability to fly to anywhere they please, allowing WN to take it over. They must now be allowed to voluntarily return to the same airport they left, rather than a fortress hub with no available gate space. Or keep the status quo, and require Southwest, like every other airline, to either vacate LUV or accept the limitations of operating out of LUV.

Sniper,
Just noticed that too........how crazy is that because that post IS on the Delta page.
I have no dog in this fight (NWA only served it as an outpost on the edge of the frontier back in the day and Delta has dropped the hub.
But, what was interesting is, when I lived there the city of Dallas got caught red handed subsidising SWA with cheeper (than any Dallas airport) landing fees. Just a mistake they said.......
I have nothing against SWA, have real close friends there plus I jumpseat on them sometimes and it is always a pleasure. But, if the City of Dallas had done the origional plan, Love would be an amusement park today......and DFW would look like DEN, which SWA seems just fine with.

The WA has been repealed. Dallas is now in the "phase out" portion of the agreement. As the months and years progress, more and more states are able to be flown to, non-stop.
It will be about 6 years until no rules exist any longer. It should be noted that CO and AA still own gates at LUV.
Sorry AA; competition is a bear.
