No bankruptcy contract without the bankruptcy.
Well, they already have 25 70-seaters with 21 more on the way for an eventual total of 46. A small fleet of 70-seaters would be sufficient for a 150 757/767/777 International and long-range domestic airline.

Who needs all those high paid senior captains then anyway ?

Come to think of it, who needs the bottom 5000 either ?

Your right though...........it likely WILL take a BK to get more RJ's, but if that's their only alternative, you'll get your wish.

Executive bonuses for the fatcats ?

Ahhh.......well, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you may want to do some research on UAL's last BK and how the execs there have done. AMR could (and will) do a MUCH better pre-pak with all their favorite ducks holding a nice formation and quacking heartily. In fact, the board (and judge) will be very impressed with their ability to clean up all their profit problems and both will condone a nice financial pat on the back for them.

I wish it weren't so, but it appears to be inevitable and the only variables right now are timing and a trigger. AMR is stalling so the trigger is pulled (by guess who ?) at (as Jack Sparrow says) the "opportune moment".
