Alright, I fly part91 and I have no experience with airlines, But I glanced over the pay scale in the national carriers and the only one that was better than jet blue was southwest, unless I missed somthing.....Just wondering why all the bitterness directed to them?

B6 is an International carrier and pays less than industry average.

To make a good comparison, compare their A320 pay to A320 and 737 at everyone else, then you can see where everyone stands in terms of compensation.

Pay should be based on total passengers flown and the type of flying you do.

OK I see what you mean .. But (and again I remind you I am uneducated on the 121 side of the industry) when I flew part 135 charter, I made considerably less than netjets pilots, it was a good gig for a while, flying citations but I knew it was a stepping stone. So was I bringing down the industry flying a small charter outfit rather than netjets?

OK.. just y 2 cents here..i dont post much on here, and am a relatively new pilot compared to all you studs..i have 2000 hours and im about to graduate college with NOWHERE to go, and am forced to go find something else to do while still flying on the side to stay current. What people have to realize, including myself, is that its an employers market. They can pay whatever they want and people will still take the jobs that are offered to them. Thats just how its going to be. I'm not married, and dont have children like alot of you probably do, but we cant just moan about how little this industry pays. Everyone is feeling the burden. We all chose not to take the desk job like alot of our equals did, and quite frankly, im proud of that. People ask me what im doing after graduation and i tell them..I HAVE NO IDEA. But im not complaining. This is the worst job market since the great depression. I dont regret the thousands upon thousands of dollars ive put into this venture because one day, its going to pay off. Eventually. Just play this one out and get creative. We are all highly skilled professionals with so much to offer, and one day the expertise that we all demonstrate daily can only help us to become better people, and better employees who deserve that better paycheck. It doesn't matter what airline we fly for, and how much we get paid, because everyone is dealing with the burden of financial obligations. Be happy that you at least have a a job, and something positive will surely come of this. You'll see. Stay optimistic.

This situation has "nothing" to do with the current economy. Period!


Long before this recession began, steps were taken to "avoid" industry standards all across the board. These steps were "designed" to benefit the carrier and came at great cost to the pilots.

This has continued through "good times" and bad.


Hopefully you will find employment with a firm that considers its employees a valuable asset and invests in them accordingly.

Looking at the hourly rate is just part of the compensation package. Don't forget the Medical/401K/B plans/retirement, % matching and a number of other things that make up the pilots compensation.

Also remember work rules (below industry avg. @ JB) and retirement medical benefits (non-existant at JB). No, I take that back. We do have retirement medical benefits at JB....it's called Medicare.:(

They've "earned" a reputation as provider of one of the worst pilot compensation packages in the industry!

I can't think of a better time to fight for a better contract than when your company is pulling a profit while in a recession. Too bad no union to point that out.
