I find it more interesting if you compare this with how each airline's financial situation is currently playing out.

One small correction: Southwest doesn't charge a change free only on anytime and business select fares.

It makes me laugh that Alaska isn't even on there. Reminds me of a time I was flying international on Delta, hanging out in the galley stretching my legs and the flight attendant told me "maybe someday you can fly for a major airline" I wanted to vomit.

Airlines are between a rock and a hard place with fees.

If they charge fees, pax and the media get annoyed.

If they bundle all of their costs in the base fare, then the pax will weed them when they sort by price on orbitz.

I was wondering the same thing. Some how Midwest and Spirit are... CNN must be westside haters.

Perhaps the Truth in Fee system, as it exists in parts of Europe may be coming to a US carrier near you.

When booking tickets, you are advised of the basic airfare, bag charge, checkin fees, and local departure airport fees. Also a disclosure is featured concerning last minute airport baggage check in fees.

And in ten years, some marketing guru will come up with the idea of "all-inclusive" air fares. For a premium, you can check three free bags, have a meal and cocktails on board at no charge, and even watch a movie! This genius will then get a $2 million dollar bonus, and retire in the islands. Man, I wish we had thought of that sooner...
