Default Southwest troubles

Just heard that SWA is cutting over 1000 flights next month and that furloughs are in talks. Any one else hearing this?

The cuts in Aug/Sept have been known for a long time. Our additional RNP Sim training over the next several months (Through the Spring) is going to help alleviate the reduced schedules. The 'F' word is not in the cards for this round of flight reductions.

They want to be nimble like DAL is. They will keep the excess staffing as it does more harm than good to furlough at this point.

Well, considering the TITLE of the thread I would think one could figure out it was about SWA.

Furlough is not the culture of SWA. They will care a very large number of surplus pilots before they will even consider a furlough. They have the cash and equity to not have any real pressure to put people on the street. They have never furloughed a employee and will stick with that unless things get far worse then they are now.

Although it may not be the culture, they are in a different situation now...they no longer have the advantage they used to.....anything goes now.

Yep, just like Kelleher used to say, " Bankruptcy court is the health club for airlines".

It's tough to compete with those who don't have to pay their bills...

Just think how much money I would have if I could throw those pesky bills in the trash. I hope the thread starter is just being funny. Our load factors have been at 80+%. If not I question his ability to continue flying the public around.
