I always do as well (except when I forget!). It's pretty funny switching off of ramp going "ok im on L, guards up on the right" and getting this look of "huh, ok? oh! yeah.."

An ASAP report is not always guaranteed to be a get out of jail card....time will tell

Why is it that when a commuter pilot does the same thing they are crucified not only here, but on the flight deck when the "experienced" Major Airline Pilot berates the "lowly" commuter pilot as he asks for a ride home!

Uh.... I think you might be shocked how ASAP works.... It might in this case prevent certificate action, but I kinda doubt it. ASAP forms have to be Sole Source to guarentee protection from certificate action. Since I'm betting someone other than the flight crew noticed both of these events they aren't definately covered under the ASAP program. Generally the FAA doesn't persue certificate action when ASAP's have been filed even in non-sole source events because filing the ASAP constitutes a "constructive attitude". Who knows if they'll follow that precedent in such high profile cases.

If the crew fell asleep (both of them) they should be fired and never work in this business again. Period. If they were arguing so much that they didn't hear center calling for their descent for 150 miles they should be fired. Period. If they dropped their headset on the floor and didn't notice for a long time they should be fired. Period.

I see a lot of talk on these forums about being professional. I have seen from time to time someone be tired in the cockpit. When One is tired, and the other notices, you either wake their ass up or realize your are betting your career on the fact that you can stay awake. I don't want to make that bet ever.

This has nothing to do with Military/Civilian or Commuter/Mainline. They F*cked up just like the idiots that landed on a Taxi Way. They should be fired too. A little accountability in our profession would go a long way. An honest mistake is one thing, negligence is another.

I guess some people don't want to hear that some people in our line of work shouldn't be here and should be FIRED.

I think people who jump to conclusions without facts have no business in this profession and should be fired as well.

OK, OK, we get your point...we all need to be FIRED. But what would you do about airlines like Southwest, that make improper repairs to aircraft or are found to be using unauthorized parts? Should they also be "fired" (have their operating certificate revoked) and barred from ever holding one again?

My point is, let's not rush to judgement about these guys. There's a LOT more to their stories than a few lines in the WSJ.
