AA to take Eagle flow throughs.

APA and AA lost the flow through arbitration and will have to take several hundred flow throughs starting soon after final issues are resolved. Does this mean AA might start recalling again? I guess we will see how serious APA is about one list. I think that with both carriers adding aircraft and Eagle recalling pilots and gearing up to hire, wouldn't this be the perfect time to work out either one list, or a Pan Am master list scenario.

Flow throughs can flow unless there is a new hire class. And sorry, there will be no master list.

Immeadiate flow may not necessarily be part of any negotiated settlement. We'll have to wait and see. A large percentage of these pilots (200+), have little interest in flowing now anyway. The most senior of these pilots were supposed to flow 8 years ago and now are in their 50's.

Wouldn't all furloughees have to be recalled before flow thru could occur?

Conventional wisdom and the contract would say so, however the arbitrator in the grievance ruled that the TWA pilots were deemed "new-hires", so flow-throughs should have occurred.

Another arbitration loss for APA. It really is sad, and surprising that these flowthroughs will now go ahead of furloughees (unless something else is negotiated during the remedy phase). If APA is serious about all flying being done by pilots on the APA seniority list then this will be the time to see some action.

AceOnTheRiver 10-23-2009 07:27 AM

That is my take. I looked at the Eagle seniority list and it looks like around 28% are already AA pilots and the bottom 47% were hired after AA stop hiring. That leaves about 25% that would be hit with one list. I would think that would be an easy fix with a fence. A big part of that 25% are making over 120K and have less than 5 years to go so they probably wouldn't want to go to AA anyway.
As far as bringing AA pilots at Eagle to AA prior to furloughs, I wouldn't be surprised to see AA start recalling next year to mitigate any disruptions.
If APA can see that they could put together one list without losing any seniority whereby gaining all RJ flying back, I see that as a no brainer. I believe that if you give the Eagle pilots pay for TOS and have a fence to prevent furlough fodder then you could get an agreement without much fuss. The hard part is getting AMR on board.

No, that's the IMPOSSIBLE part.

Without AMR interest, it will never happen and AMR has (and has had) absolutely NO interest in a "one list" concept at AMR.

Complete elimination of scope issues should be a reason for AMR to perk up. Being the only legacy carrier remotely close to that position would give them a serious competitive advantage. How hard would it be for DAL to accomplish the same feat?

If AMR is serious about innovating then this should be their first step. Simple, streamlined, efficient operations.
