They are interesting, relevant...not so sure: I'm glad that you, and several others have not only figured out what happened but also solved the problem. However you will, and have made a mistake, and if you're lucky, someone will be there to pick it up. No one in this industry has ever flown the perfect flight and if you think your have...

Perhaps we should wait until all the info comes out...

I really doubt that we are going to read much of a reason why they missed by 150 miles.

iceman49 10-25-2009 05:24 PM

Not saying that we will...just think there has been more than enough public flogging...to what end? Maybe so we can pound our chests more, we need to learn from it and move on!

Also, Airbus guys are now in Bid Period 5 which is completely new. These changes include Pbs, scheduling, etc. Many changes are happening. Let's wait for some facts.

SOP's have changed frequently? Fine. But come on guys. This crew, for whatever reason, overflew their intended airport by 150 miles. How about some basic airmanship and common sense here? Unless they were both totally zonked out, there really is no good explanation here. These weren't two private pilots trying to land a 320 we're talking about here.

Unity? What unity? The facts haven't even been released and you've made up your mind. I thought the media are the only ones prejudging our profession. Well, maybe not. Watch your back guys/gals.

Turning a blind eye to the facts in the name of an official investigation ignores the obvious. This crew is guilty of negligence. The public knows this. The media knows this. The pilots know this. Even HSLD knows this.

Wow. I'm speechless.

No shame for anyone trying these 2 guys in the court of public opinion?
Absolutely amazing and sad with some of the posts from the past couple of days in regards to this incident.

I saw another interview with the FO. He tried to do the right thing and tell the reporter that he had no comment; though in the end he ended up basically making a statment. If they (he) doesn't want to be judged by public opinion - then don't speak to the media!

HSLD,

I am not attempting to smear these guys. I don't know what happened, only the Capt and FO know. It appears that the FDR won't be of any help. All we will probably ever know is what they tell us. Distraction or asleep? Man, have I made some mistakes. But NORDO for an hour in the US (radar environment)? Flying over the airport by 150 miles? I guess it can happen.

However, if they did fall asleep, I can understand. We have all felt tired, whether it was the end of a week long trip or day one. It happens to all of us, no matter what career field we are in. Doctors, lawyers, pilots, etc. It is simply part of our physiology, nothing about being a pilot means we are immune to being sleepy.

The bottomline is that I am not calling these guys out. We are fallable and could make a huge mistake on any flight. This will be my last post on the matter. Fly safe..

Agreed! The only two words that need be spoken are "no comment".
