Default Bumped Nonrevs from Buenos Aires and Santiago

You American or Delta South America B767 guys:

Just curious how many seats you have to go empty at max weight coming back to the US because of cargo? Thanks!

Depends on the day, but we are heavy on cargo, so do not rely on seats avail.

I know the seat availability is unreliable, so I'm trying to figure out by how much. Can you give me a range of seats that go out empty at max weight? 15, 30, 50? Thanks!

EZE-MIA on AA is flown by 2 777's each night, and I have not heard of any weight restrictions being a problem.
the 767 going to JFK could be a different story though.

I flew out of South America for years (767) and I guess I'm trying to figure out what you're asking. If the cargo weight, fuel, pax load, etc. puts a flight at MGTOW, then what difference does it make how many seats are available ?

On a lot of my flights, in both directions, we were often full and couldn't accommodate SA's no matter what the weights were.

If you're a new hire, the first rule of Int'l travel is always have a back-up plan, whether an ID 90 or a ZED ticket along with flights on other carriers and/or other city pairs. If not, take some extra clothes and a lot of money.

We have flights payload optimized all of the time. I have see it go full of pax and I have seen 40 seats left open for MGTOW restrictions.

If you work for one of these companies I would call Load Control and see if they are planning on Optimizing a specific flight. You would need to call day of.

Thanks for the replies, guys. No I'm not a new hire and am familiar with ZEDs. I just subscribed to this site and it put me as a new hire. I'll try to fix that.

PhantomFlyer, you ask the exact question I'm trying to figure out. With the B767 max weight and full of cargo, how many seats are there left in the back usually? I mean, if it indicates 50 available seats and, hypothetically, I'm number 1 on the standby list, can I count on getting on? Is the plane max weight with 50 seats left? Or 20 seats? Or only 5-10? I have many options on many airlines including going to Santiago or Buenos Aires and I just want to have a good understanding of this limitation so I know which city and airline to first try! I know it varies from day to day, but I'm just trying to get a ballpark of the number of seats to count OUT of the seats available.

Thanks again!

Still kind of difficult to understand what you are asking for.

Since 2003 until 2008 my wife and I have gone to EZE from MIA and back as D1, D2 and now as D3 (i don't work for AMR anymore), once or twice a year sometimes.

We were never, and I mean never left behind. You have to choose your travel time wisely. Do your research.

Also, it is impossible to know, how many seats will be open, after fuel, cargo, delays and weather considerations, until the day of.

I don't know about DEL, but AA you can have a pretty good idea on Jetnet a couple of days before the trip.

And always give yourself a day prior and a day after for Int'l. Specially to EZE and Santiago. Very heavy loads.

I hope it helps.

rumor is the A330 will be utilized by DL on the EZE-ATL and SCL-ATL after SOC, so that should benefit non-revs since the 330 would not have limitations on those legs.

acl65pilot - That's the most definite number I've heard yet, even asking around the crew rooms and what not. 40 is a lot of seats that I could be sitting in. Thanks.

Sailor - That is encouraging. However December is nearly high season down there, and we take vacations whenever we can all align our schedules up together unfortunately. This is why I'm doing my due diligence now, so I have a plan, and a backup plan, and a backup to the backup plan. Oh, and being DAL I don't have Jetnet and the AA nonrev phone people, while nice, will not give loads out. "It looks fair" is a standard answer I hear with no willing to give anymore details.

astrojet - That's what I hear too. A330 ATL base here it comes. That does not help me, however, in my venture down there in December. I look forward to that day in my return down that direction. I have the feeling that future AEs will be very interesting. And the whole GUM base and everything...

Thanks for all your input, guys. If anyone has anymore details I'm all ears!
