We have a tower pizza party committee that handles that at every airport where we operate. We consider it to be lobbying money, and deduct it off of our corporate income tax.

The controllers appreciate it so much that pretty soon we are going to be able to land on the taxiways.

That's not bribery. Pizza is cheap, and simple. If they were buying the controllers a vehicle or giving them cash it would be different.

Kinda like taking someone to dinner who can get you a good job. Not a bribe, just a kind gesture that you hope will be reciprocated sometime down the road.

Maybe he was not used to a pilot taxing without a chip on his shoulder trying to get the extra 5 minutes of block time. Maybe he wasn't used to seeing someone taxi WITH their numbers. Time will tell.

Is there a speed limit in LGA on the ground? I haven't seen it published. Our FOM allows 30 knots on a straight taxiway. The company says it's safe. The FAA signed off on the FOM and we do it everywhere without any hassles so don't give me the "taxi no faster than a 3 legged dog" speal. I guess I wouldn't be friendly either if I had to live in such a crappy part of the country surrounded by jackasses.

I haven't been to LGA for a long while, but back in the day there used to be a speed limit in LGA on certain taxiways/turns. I think it has to do with the soft surface and their airport "sinking" problem... I wanna say max 10 knots in certain turns, but can't remember exactly.

Ha ha!! Love it!! Cheers to SWA and their efficiency, safety, recent pay raise for their pilots, and tremendous customer service! It is the customer, not management that pays all our salaries.

One of the best parts of the the book "Nuts" about SWA is when the author details Colleen Barrett talking about airline executives from other competitors coming to visit SWA HQ's and asking "what is the secret?", "how do you do it?" and then she tells them there is no secret - just look at how we operate. And their collective response is well "we can't do it that way, it would never work."

When an airline, not to pick on American, but like American, pays their pilots by the minute (instead of by the trip), you get taxi speeds at ORD (NOT like a three legged dog, that would be entirely too reckless and fast) like a one legged turtle.

Please no flames because I am praising SWA. I know there are those who are already typing a response before they got to this sentence. Your distain is duly noted. But more importantly, thank you for working for somebody else.
