On thing CAL has I like is it allows pilots on reserve to pick the trips up up to 24 hrs prior to report. We could do something like that to help commuters. RAW would not matter but those that flew less or had more seniority would have the ability to be the first on the list for said trip. (one way or the other in regards to priority for trip. It is for us to decide)

They also do not sign in, they acknowledge the trip within 24 hrs.

Just trying to add to the discussion.

Jet Blue does that too. Reserve guys can pick up open time within 24 hours. That would be cool.

They already assign open time trips to reserves 24 hours out. Are you talking about some kind of white slip system for reserves?

acl65pilot 03-10-2010 06:48 AM

Yes. A reserve pilot at CAL has the option to pick up the time 24 prior to report or their reserve period. My buddies always pick up a trip versus sit EWR. It is not assigned to you. You go to the pot and select to fly that trip. I believe it is instantaneous

Also, next request, if on reserve you don't lose a day off for training.

Again, not complaining. Just making suggestions as they pop in my head. Spent some time on the line with someone on a rather important committee, learned a lot.

Here's a little secret. If you call the vacation desk (number is on DeltaNet) they may be able to move your vacation +- 3 days. I've done it numerous times. In fact, I'm on vacation right now, and the official days were Mon-Sun.

The key is that it is solely at the discretion of the vacation desk. They will typically grant the request during slow vacation months (like March) but won't over the holidays or the summer.

Just make your request after the 1st of the month, after vacation moveups are processed, but NLT than the bid closing at 0800/12 of each month.

I've also worked with the vacation desk and they are VERY willing to help if at all possible.

I say we get pad for duty time. Sign in to signout, and $5 an hour on layover. Everyone else in the world gets paid for their time! Why not us.

Since we're taking that C2012 survey now... BUMP!

acl65pilot 06-04-2010 04:20 AM

What was everyone's percentage they put in? :D

It was a good survey.
