Funny whenever I make a post like that it gets taken off the site by the moderators.

Taken care of.

A very good point. Of course, in van Zanten's case case, his flying skills allowed him to survive long enough for his ego to get to a size that eventually let slip in an error of judgement that killed him. Keep in mind Teneriffe occured before CRM was a common term.

But experienced, competent pilots don't usually become arrogant pilots.

What we are talking about here are criminally negligent pilots that don't actually know how to recover from the upset they created, the pattern of lies they used to obtain and retain a position they never deserved, and the companies that hire them, and file to weed them out.

You know your right. I apologize for the {deleted word} comment. I did not mention the name of the airline because I was not trying to cast stones at any airline in particular...thats how I should have responded the first time.

Yup, I find chief pilots some of the most dangerous pilots in the system. They do not practice their craft. I am sure many are excellent pilots, but sitting behind a desk month after month, and flying once or twice every 4-6 weeks is dangerous.

Add the new probationary FO in the right seat and whoola! You are just asking for things to slide through the proverbial layers of swiss cheese.

I personally know of at least a half-dozen United pilots who were hired with minimal experience in the '89-'95 time frame, some never flew anything bigger than a Duchess. None of them had turbine experience, none had any airline flying experience.

Wendy does make some good points. I think the underlying issue is that fewer intelligent young people see this as a career. Wendy's right, you get what you pay for.

GP

I was thinking about the same thing. As you probably know UAL hired people with less than 600 hours in the 1989 to 1995 time period. Like you said with no turbine time or any professional flying experience. What is Cpt. Wendy's background anyway? She might have been one of those low timers who got hired because UAL HR lady went out of her ways to hire women and low time pilots who had prior UAL connections.

Wow this takes guts to write coming from some chick who probably got hired to fly a 737 with less than ATP mins and under age 25 because through united's "internship" program to hire more women so it wouldn't get sued. How about instead of saying the the public deserves better, you should issue an apology that you gave up scope for more money giving these regionals a foot in the door.

If they demanded that the starting pay for any feeder working for United et al. was 30/hr and captains topped at 120/hr or whatever they thought was appropriate. Because why do Majors have regionals? COST folks! Raise the cost of farming out your work and then it doesn't make as much sense to do so. Trying to limit airframes does not work. Raise the pay man! That is the answer.

Thumbs up.
You have it figured out. It would help everyone..whether at the regional or at the mainline.
