Default Aircraft Transition

Hi,

Lets say you work Alaska Airlines. I read they were planing on completly phasing out the MD80's. Now your MD80 capt, and they phase the plane out and you end up in the 737-800. Do you go direct left seat or do get displaced to the right seat? Just curious.

Typically when a fleet is retired, there is a displacement bid. What fleet type and seat that you end up in is determined by your relative seniority to everybody else.

The displacement bid may or may not contain negotiated clauses which prevent/contain downgrades or displacement of other pilots.
