Kudos to DL Customer Service.
We spend so much time bashing each other, just a quick note of praise. Booked a flight on Delta.com for a friend going to our Job Fair (stupid last-minute sale...)then realized 15 minutes later I f-ed up and booked the wrong date on a cheapie, no-change fare. She's Silver Medallion (furloughed NetJets) and the res people had the ticket changed for free before I had a chance to ask (I was perfectly willing to pony up the 100 bucks for my own stupidity). Nice to see some actual Customer Service is still out there.

It's good to hear you had a good experience. I was wondering if they were slipping into a customer service black hole. I fly all over the world for months at a time, flying lots of different carriers to get to work. I routinely have bad experiences with Delta, and no help from their customer service. My most recent experienced involved being sent to the wrong gate, which caused me to miss the flight, then being told they were charging me almost $600 to get me on the next flight which left two days later (hotel at my expense), then losing my luggage for 5 days.. Next time I'll fly Aero Mexico or Egypt Air for better service.

You want to know about real customer service? Last month during the week-long ash cloud delays, Emirates Airline, Qatar Airways and Etihad put up stranded passengers at their airports in the Gulf for free. No US and only a very few European carriers did this.

Qatar: Qatar government owns 50% of the airline. Must be nice.
Emirates: Dubai government is the sole owner of the airline.
Etihad: Has yet to post a profit since it started in 2003.
We'd all love to shell out free rooms because of weather or volcanoes, but we have a business to run. We don't have the deep pockets or government money like the airlines listed above.

Yep, easy to do this when you're subsidized by wealthy oil-rich governments (notice how the price of fuel is steadily rising for the rest of us? You think Emirates does SE taxi?). Not a valid comparo at all.
