Default UAL/CAL Livery

Not to distract from the more important issues of the merger, but does anyone know why Management chose to keep the CAL livery and just swap the names? The CAL logo is obviously more modern and a good choice...The paint scheme however is rather dated especially for a post merger company...
Was it Driven by $$?? CAL mangagement running the shop?? (Thank God)
Speculation?

My guess it was a bean counter along the way. Most UAL planes need to be painted anyways, so if you really only have to paint those it is a lot cheaper.

Don't know if this is the reason, but consider how easy it is to paint over the Continental name and replace it with United; you then don't have to paint the whole airplane.

Also, while I don't know the actual numbers, a bunch of United airplanes still are the old "Stephen-Wolf-gray" and are in desperate need of a new paint job, whether it be the new United blue or the CAL white.

Think of it this way, you first paint over the Continental with United and instantly all your planes are in "United" colors. Albiet 3 different United paint jobs but still all say United in the side. No "United 123 in Continental colors" as the call sign. Then when the funds or motivation comes along you get a NEW United paint job. Something totally different. Make sense?

The CAL tail is a decal. The UAL tail is a decal. the only thing to change after the merger will be the blue belly. I'd look for the interim paint scheme at UAL blue and white and the CAL airplanes to have the United
repainted over the black Continental. this is DEFINITELY the best cost saving measure as many if not ALL of CAL's planes are on their first paint scheme. But then again?? ANYTHING is better than that God Awful GREY!! that Paint job is so damn ugly you gotta get mentally READY to go work on an airplane with it! Did you see how much better the 747's looked in the blue and White?!? Really Snappy!

I love the dated paint schemes. The last hold-out, American....the best looking paint scheme in the business!

Here's an example of how the Continental-esque gray and white can look good.

I think they kept the CAL logo and livery as a reassurance to CAL customers that only the name was changing, the service will remain the same. (and to emphasize the "merger of equals")
There are a lot of CAL customers out there afraid that the customer service levels will change to what they perceive as United's "bad" service. I noticed higher spirits from passengers and fellow employees after the "new" United livery was revealed.

The truth is the customer service levels could go either way depending on how management deals with the employees.

I expect that a new livery will be unveiled within a few years of the merger DOC.

So anyone know which uniform will survive? All the nwa guys are now in Delta uniforms....
I'm ual furlough so want to know if I should give my uniforms to the homeless...
Come to think of it, why don't I just make a sign, and wear my uniform on the freeway exit near my house?
Might pay for some health insurance.....
Or better yet, I freak out and wind up getting it for life....
