I have been a judge for a long time and I hear testimony and evidence from both sides all the time. Your story sounds credible, but unfortunately the same story makes you appear ignorant and simplistic. I do not doubt that you were unaware of the consequences of flying struck work. However, this profession is such that ignorance is not a defense.
Where anyone ends up in life depends on both luck and the choices you make. You were unlucky in that you got called by scheduling so soon after supposedly being off for two weeks. I believe you when you say that you still had no idea what was going on, but once you found out that there was a strike, you made the choice of flying the return flight. That one mistake will cost you a career in aviation.
I salute your courage in posting here and explaining yourself, but I think your struggle is with the Spirit MEC and the Spirit pilots, not a bunch of anonymous posters on an internet board. It is them you need to convince of your ignorance and subsequent contrition, remorse and sincerity. I urge you to donate to the Spirit strike fund. I also encourage you to volunteer walking the line and educate others of the very hard lesson you learned. Doing this will not erase the scarlet letter, but I hope you will find some measure of peace and balance after all this.

Next question is for the Spirit reps...my understanding was that the Captain was retired from an ALPA legacy...which means he has lifetime pass benefits...I would hope that if this is correct and verified, that you would be insisting that the MEC at that carrier work to ensure his free ride is over.
What this guy did is bad enough, for a former ALPA member to do it is completly inexcusable.

If I was a check airman at Falcon this SCAB would never pass a training event with me ever.

Why don't we let the Spirit MEC make an official determination of the fault. After all it is their strike and their picket, we should let them be the ones to determine what the situation is via an official channel.

I have to say, I'm leaning towards believing the FO's story.
I feel a bit bad for him, and won't come charging in with pitch forks and torches- but the consequences that he has sewn will be reaped in the rest of his career. What's done cannot be undone- I would find it at the very least more respectable with the money earned from the flight donated. He needs to accept the consequences of the actions and expect to be treated as such the rest of his career. That's just how it goes.
This should go as an example to all those down the line that poor SA can be a career killer as much as it can cause you to wreck an airplane. I get the idea Onno unfortunately is not exactly king of aviation SA in any area...
As far as the pitchforks and torches, I reserve those for the captain. I get the distinct feeling he aided in continuing to bait the FO through the process.

Vagabond...nice to see you! Good weigh in with some reasoned commentary based on your legal backround.

That has since been debunked. The illustrious hockeypilot44 continuously proves why what he posts on here should be taken with a grain of salt.

A Fairy Tale
You can write missives until hell freezes over and everyone on this forum is retired and sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair and it is going to change one simple FACT. You are a low life SCAB. Period !
You made your bed when you decided to SCAB and now you can sleep in that bed forever.
Good Luck Mate with the rest of your life.

$$ to Spirit Strike Fund
I think the very least you can do is to donate the $$ that you earn while the Spirit pilots are on strike to the Spirit Strike Fund.
Better yet...send each Spirit pilot a box of Omaha steaks, and a case of Sam Adams assorted beers.
Hmmm...might want to send those steaks and beer to all union pilots that are standing strong with the Spirit Pilots!
oops...didn't read all the responses on this thread...looks like someone already covered the Strike Fund stuff!
