What About LCC?
I can't figure out what this does 1) to UsAirways, and 2) to UsAirways' stock.
The first is easier: this can't be good. Charlotte gets bypassed, DCA and LGA get invaded, and I think BOS and PHL take a hit too. On the second, their ability to continue stand-alone is adversely affected. I suspect it becomes a LOT more likely LCC seeks a deal. You might think that means down on the stock. Then again, it might mean some other airline(s) might get more defensive. Maybe someone else becomes a LOT more willing to talk to LCC than they were yesterday. AMR? |

No doubt that there will be merger headaches. There will be an integration that will not be a staple, no doubt, since AirTran isn't a bankrupt company.
You can't make me feel your misery no matter how hard you try. As far as feeling misery, not trying...just think the lack of reality in the posts are funny. ps. I find it hilarious that someone already updated airtran wiki with this news. (that is how i found the 1650 number) |
"That is why we plan to provide AirTran Crew Members an opportunity to work for Southwest, although some of the opportunities may require a change in location or position."
Yea..... that doesn't sound like a very cooperative merger. More like a "you are welcome to hit the road" if you don't like where we put you statement. Can't wait to see some of those fine airtran f/a's, with their fine airtran attitude, marching up and down those SWA isles. Mergers invlove a hell of alot more than just pilots. Ding, ding......You are free to move about the country..... from trailer park to trailer park. |

This isn't meant to be flame bait, but seniority list integration by its very nature will cause some people to feel "they've been screwed". When SWA bought Morris, they stapled the Morris pilots onto the bottom of the SWA list. IIRC they offered the same to Frontier pilots, who thought that method was unfair and declined. As you may know Airtran is the former Valujet which started in 1993. So there are (assuming they're still there) some Airtran pilots whose date of hire is mid-nineties. I believe that a significant amount of SWA's growth was after 1993. So in a date-of-hire SLI there will be some pretty senior Airtran guys. I believe that McCaskill-Bond would preclude a stapled seniority list. SWA has a history of excellent employee relations with its pilots, but if one is a SWA first officer and sees several hundred Airtran pilots merged in senior to him (or her) I don't think that will make that person (and there will likely be a bunch of them) particularly happy. |

Now that's funny. I literally laughed out loud. I can see a bunch of Delta moderators sending instant messages back and forth and coming to the conclusion that it was a fair statement. You Delta guys crack me up.
I guess that means that I can freely refer to Delta airline as a junk airline now - are we going by credit rating? It was not DAL modes that made the decision. |

The pilots, FAs, and mechanics are all union at AirTran and that will help them. On the other hand, the agents and rampers are not and if I was one of them I would be nervous.

So I guess all the B-717 pilots have to go buy a type rating now????? ;)
