Why does everyone want to go to a back room for the searches. The people need to see that the pilots are treated just a poorly as they are going through the checkpoint.
That, and I don't want to be alone in a room with the TSA.

I agree with you, but in my opinion NOBODY should be subject to this intrusive pat-down unless there is due cause or they are exhibiting obvious threats against aviation security. NOBODY should have to subject themselves to this BS just to exercise their right to travel. Terrorists definitely need to be kept off airplanes, but this heavy-handed approach is just downright absurd and in my opinion does little-to-nothing to enhance aviation security.

Everyday we move further and further away from being a free country. A few years ago I had my car searched just for driving onto airport grounds to pick someone up. When they stopped me, I refused to let them search my vehicle and offered to leave. It didn't go over very well. I was downright threatened by law enforcement. My options were have my car searched or go to jail. What ever happened to the Fourth Amendment and probable cause? I wouldn't call probable cause driving to the airport to pick someone up. Our constitutional rights are being thrown away in the name of security. Is it really worth it?

When has ALPA ever put their foot down? If ALPA did then we wouldn't have a seat at the table!

My wife now knows the difference between backscatter and millimeter wave.....who da thunk?? My family will not be radiated either. I'd rather they take the pat down in public. I want the comments those TSA pukes make heard by others and the dumping of the suitcase seen by cameras. I'll smile, silently waiting for them to finish. Then I'll ask to see their SIDA badge. They can't refuse that!! Then I'll have names if they say or do anything unprofessional. Glad to see APA stand up for their pilots. Sure wish our union would do that. I don't care if it comes from National or just my local council. Someone needs to stand up for whats right. I think many of us worker bees are fed up with the system. This will be the straw that breaks the camels back.
I'll take some TSA lovin' over radiation any day. Just close your eyes and think of a hot chick!!

Anyone remember the story about the Therac-25 radiation therapy machine?
Therac-25 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Basically, a software bug resulted in the device blasting patients up to 100 times the amount of intended dose (killing 3). A variety of factors we're involved, such as someone porting software over from other hardware, no hardware locks to prevent the beam from exceeding its intended usage parameters and a variety of other scary stuff.
I wonder what independent agencies have actually looked at this thing in detail, from hardware to software? I would imagine that the TSA being what they are would probably not permit it as they'd claim it might highlight weaknesses that could be exploited. Either way, given how the government acquires technologies and implements them in the field does not really give me confidence that due diligence was performed here. Even if problems did arise, it would be months or years before the story would come out.

Once you grant consent, you better hope that nobody had access to your car for any reason and dropped something you didn't know about - because whatever they find is now your problem.
There is no upside whatsoever to grant consent to a search, and huge downside risk for you. And any threat of jail if you don't consent is pure bluff on their part. You are under no legal obligation to grant consent. This is because proper probable cause eliminates the need for law enforcement to ask your consent in the first place. They don't ask, unless they don't have probable cause.

I never go through the scanner because I dont want to be radiated every single day. I do tell my family that I prefer them to go through the scanner rather than opt for the feel up. I dont want anyone putting there hands in my family's private areas for any reason.
