Lightbulb EMB 120 pilot future???

Hi all,

I will be flying the Brasilia pretty soon and I would like to know how far I can jump once I get 1000hours PIC on this plane. For example: can I hope for southwest, Fedex or any other good major with Brasilia PIC under my belt? Where are all of the SkyWest people going after they do their time with SkyWest?

Thank you

"Minimums, ie: pic time is to get you the interview. Once you get it, it's ALL about selling yourself". In the 90's no legacy carrier required 1000 PIC turbine. I had 1002 hours of the aforementioned and asked a gentleman by the name of Cecil Yule a similar question, and the first sentence of this post was his answer. I immediately put my apps in with all carriers and had interviews with 3 majors within 2 months. Of the 5 airlines I interviewed with, only JB didn't like what I had 2 offer... blessing in disguise. PIC time is not about how big the aircraft is. It's about the "C" in "PIC". try to maintain a positive attitude, treat your crew and aircraft with the paradigm the you are responsible for not only their safety, but their advancement, realize that they are your most valuable asset and you won't have a problem. I am a military AMC guy with many hours PIC in heavies, who has seen many an EMB-120 captain who had a better grip on this theory than a lot of heavy PIC guys. Enjoy the 120!

The EMB-120 will teach you how to fly. It is a great airplane. Flew it for a few years in the mid to late 90's. It is an airplane that can be unforgiving if you are not on top of it.

Sure you can. MEL Turbine PIC in the EMB-120 means you have had to learn to fly the hard way! Just make sure you know each and every carrier's MEL PIC Turbine requirements. It should'nt take you more than a year and a half to get that time, just remember that these days pilots are getting hired by the majors that exceed the minimums by quite a margin. Your phone won't start to ring off the hook once you get your 1,000 PIC.

This industry requires patience and persistence. Figure between 5,000 and 7,000 hours at least if you're a civilian FLAP. Good luck, there are still some good jobs left in this industry.
