Default Headset in the DC9

Has anyone had problems using a Bose headset on the DC9? I hear lots of guys use the 1 ear Telex or similar so they can hear each other talk. Something about a very poor intercom system. That or they don't use headsets.

Is a noise canceling (Ear Cup) style headset a problem in the DC9?

Well I've only flown NWA DC9's, & the company provided 2 ear Telex 750 headsets. The flight deck is fairly quiet. When you accelerate out of 10,000ft it gets a little noisy, but through the mid 20's it quiets down considerably. It's always quiet enough to communicate without an interphone though.

The headset will probably be compatible, but the problem you may encounter is your CA probably won't use the hot mike. We never do at NWA. With noise canceling headsets that may be a problem.

That's the only problem I could think of.

Don't worry, they don't use headsets on the DC-9......they use an old tin soup can and a really long piece of string.

BTW....Go Navy!

TurboDog,

Welcome to the DC9. Most guys use the Telex 750 that are in the airplane or a molded custom earpiece with Telex PEV-77 headphone and the hand mike. I guess you could use a ANR headset, but most guys don't.

Here is a link:

I don't know if TurboDog will be flying DC9's for DAL. Might be someone else.

OK, posted a link to the Telex website so he can check out the 750s and the PV-77s. Hope this helps.

Does anyone else still fly the DC9?

Oh yea, I think they are using them in South America and Africa.
