Sounds like a tool.
If I have met the JS at the gate I still asked them to stick their head in the cockpit when they board so I know they got on. No need to do the whole introduction thing again but I want to be sure they are not left standing in the Jetway

That is a perfectly great way of doing business, you make sure that everyone who needs a ride gets one. However, you mentioned that you ask them to check in upon boarding to let you know. Apparently this guy didn't do that, but let him know he was discourteous for not doing so. That is taking it way too far and I agree he must be a tool.

If that's the case, that's great...it just sounded like this particular CA wanted him to do the song and dance twice.

I had a similar experience on United a couple years ago. Checked with the captain at the gate. He said no problem. It was going to be a tweener whether I'd be in the JS or cabin and I waited until the last moment when the gate agent told me to board and sit in the back. The gate agent was rushing to get the flight out on time. As I walked down the jet way, presumably the last to board, a group of about 10 people piled in behind me. The gate agent was bringing the final paperwork down and assured me I had a seat in the back. With bags-in-toe I got on the airplane but didn't stop up front since I had bags in both hands and had already spoken to the captain. Just prior to push the captain got out of his seat came to the rear of the aircraft and in front of everybody read me the riot act and said he "was this close (drawing his fingers together) to booting me off his aircraft." Shocked, I aplogized. Quite embarrassing.

That said, I've commuted hundreds of times and have NEVER had this experience again on United or any other airline. Don't sweat it.

I would have told him how completely unprofessional he was being and happily left "his" aircraft.

And I would have told him to shove the ride up his fundamental orifice and left too, and hope to meet him outside an airport one day. The appropriately anointed are welcome on my JS any time with the right bits of paper, and of course don't forget the expensive name brand boot polish.

Damned bullies....

OK, I'll give you the opposite side of the coin.. .. my airline had gone belly up in the blink of an eye less than 48 hours earlier and I was on my way to a critical job interview. The back was full and there was already a jumpseater. The Captain smuggled me into the cockpit and I rode from MCI to ORD standing up. Of course this was pre-911 but I always wished I had wrote down that United Captain's name.
