Default Alaska Air Pays $72M In Employee Bonuses

From Seattle Times:

After posting more than $250 million in profits last year, Alaska Air Group this week paid record annual incentive bonuses totaling $72 million to nearly all of its 12,600 employees.

Almost $44 million went to some 6,000 Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employees in the Puget Sound area. Another $10.7 million went to employees around Portland, Ore.

The bonus, equal to more than one month's pay for most workers, is in addition to bonuses of just over $1,000 that each employee earned last year for achieving on-time and customer satisfaction targets.

The companywide monthly and annual bonuses combined totaled $85 million.

"Our company enjoyed a banner year," said Bill Ayer, Alaska Air Group's chairman and chief executive. "I'm very pleased to see everyone at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air share in our financial prosperity."

My bonus check from the company was nice. Unfortunately, the IRS must have thought "bonus" was actually spelled "bone-us!"

All kidding aside, it was definitely a nice check. I don't expect that kind of a pay-out next year, as AAG has raised the performance bar for 2011.

I have a check airman friend there who received a nearly $20,000 bonus check. I understand your bonus checks came out to roughly 10% of your regular pay?

Those that could have used it the most were completely left out.

I guess its the same theory that furloughed pilots don't bring a job when considering seniority list integrations.

Great thing about previous companies is that we could always donate and help out those that needed it most. I'm sure Alaska is no different.

Congrats on your success.

Alaska's current situation is a perfect example how top pilots are enjoying all this flying and the extra bonus checks whereas their furloughed brothers and sisters are suffering..Gotta love the senior people sucking the blood of the junior ones..

Did the furlough guys get anything? How about bringing them back first, then patting yourselves on the back afterwards.
