Default 3% to help Japan

It is truly horrible what the great Japanese people are going through now. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones or do not have a home to go back to (or an entire village). In a time when us FedEx pilots are considering a measly 3% raise over the benefits of a full and complete contract I say we pledge to help those poor people in Japan.
I am going to donate 3% of my next months pay to Japan relief efforts and I would request everyone help any way that you can. I know this is not very much money individually (in my case a few hundred bucks) but if we all chip in then it would amount to a lot of money.
If you haven't watched the horrible footage coming out of Japan then get off of APC, turn on the tv news or google Japan. Watch for 10 minutes and you'll see why it is more important right now to give than to receive.

I think that's a great idea. Does anybody know the best place to donate? I'm assuming American Red Cross, but am open to other charities.

I'm actively looking at some japanese charities. When I find one that doesn't keep too much for "administration" I will post. It's hard to watch what those poor people are going through.

The Japanese Red Cross reports that they keep only 15% for Admin and operation which is considerably less than the US Red Cross. Here's the info on their operations that I found: JAPANESE RED CROSS SOCIETY - Finance

Also, Google has a link on that will allow you to contribute to the Japanese Red Cross Society on the relief page here:

Here's the CNN link with reputable charities. I personally know that World Vision uses 85 cents on every dollar for aid.

Concur. I gave to the American Red Cross fund supporting the Japanese relief effort.

Default Japan Red Cross

Thanks for the info, it's good to know about the 15% admin take (JRC). I decided to contribute to the relief efforts via the American Red Cross, however I will make the next two or three to the Japan Red Cross.
