ALPA gets CrewPass done

ALPA just got approval for a CrewPass like system, paid for by the ATA with tests starting in May.

Good evening. This is Lee Moak with an update to ALPA’s Executive Council, Executive Board, and Board of Directors. Today is Thursday, March 31.

The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), and the Air Transport Association (ATA) received approval from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for nationwide implementation of a crewmember screening system. The system, jointly sponsored by ALPA and ATA, will tie airline employee databases together in a seamless way, enable TSA security officers to positively verify identity and employment status of crewmembers, and get our members out of the passenger screening lines. Yah, only 10 years after 9/11. Alpa's really on the job!

This is definitely good, on the good/bad scale, but I'm disappointed to hear that we have to do more testing. I thought we had already taken care of that part.

I hope they can get rid of the in uniform requirement in the process.

...and only 75 years after Social Security was implemented Congress is still working on it.;)

I'll take the Glass half-full view. If they pull off nationwide implementation with the ATA paying for it, ALPA has earned my 1.9% (For the year).

Agreed, more testing...Pardon if I temper my enthusiasm

I agree! We should have gone with the teamster plan YEARS ago. Or maybe that APA plan that the AA pilots have worked so hard on ...

Sheesh. Someone does something good and all some people do is b*tch about how it could have been done better/sooner/cheaper.

It's my observation that there are more people who watch something than who do something. Too bad there aren't more appreciative watchers out there.

Good, now that this is finished, ALPA can focus on the more important issues.
