To OWN the Pacific Rim, Baby!

Why did we do the Jet A deal? To crack California.

I have heard a rumor more than once that Alaska airlines is gearing up to fly to Asia--Tokyo I heard. Not sure if the rumor including a new airframe or the plan was to fly HNL-NRT(HDE) with the mighty 737...seems like a steaming pile of balderdash but thought I run it by all you experts.
Thanks in advance.
At first I thought this was a crazy idea, but then again, when I was in newhire class 5 years ago, I thought Alaska flying to Hawaii was crazy too...

I remember seeing an Etops map during recurrent a few years ago that had the -800 reaching Tokyo. Maybe that was a little "agressive", but I wonder what the 900-ER's will be able to do?

According to Boeing's website the range of the -900ER is about the same as the -800, just more peeps. If we are going to do Asia we would need to buy a bigger plane...or another airline that has bigger planes.

Skywest kept the same Horizon service.

Oh and the SWA pilot would have liked one of the FAs.

Well it was Steve Wynn, his crew, and whoever else travels with him.

The alaska crowd is gettin big in their britches...I think only VA, Mesa, Spirit and Allegiant are smaller than you guys...more likely Skywest will buy you..your leadership does not really like having their own employees....hope you have good successorship language in that contract next to your iron-clad scope.

Guys,

Flew the C-40 (737-700) all over the Pacific with the Navy. We could make if eastbound (depending on payload) but westbound was very hard to do with the winds. I doubt you could schedule this service reliably on a 737. Note - Guys have flown PHNL to KNIP (Jacksonville) on ferry flights.

I think the comment about AS ruling the pacific was a bit of a joke, we all know our management moves extremely conservatively, which might have something to do with us remaining independent for more than 75 years.

What are you using for gauging our size? Airplanes? Pilots? Couple months ago we were the 3rd largest airline in the country by market cap, behind delta, southwest & United/continental. I'm not sure where we stand right now but our stock is still rocking so I don't think anyone will be scooping us up anytime soon.
