Operation Orange?

Was given a slip of paper today in MIA by an AA pilot with this website. Has anyone else heard of this? Doubt it'll go anywhere but an interesting thought.

Finally!!! Does anyone else have any more info on this? The thought that this is even being attempted brings a tear of joy to my eye. It's about phucking time! Let's go!

flysooner9 07-01-2011 09:43 PM

if you read through most of the documents under the "pilots" tab you should get a pretty good idea of what to do.

Like touch your nose secretly to identify yourself... come on.

Been around for awhile now.

Saw this in LAS a few months ago. An American guy was passing out leaflets on in.

PilotFrog 07-02-2011 05:56 PM

An American guy? Last I heard they still had a pension.

pipe 07-02-2011 06:30 PM

I support this 100%. Maybe this guy will manage to do what ALPA should have done years ago.

I'm gettin my orange $h!t.

This is the stupidest thing I have seen on here in awhile on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.

Care to expound? While the cloak and dagger stuff is a bit squirrely, I couldn't argue with much in the narrative. How we got here, the assessment of the unions and the government, etc. seemed about right to me.

It's too bad that it may not be taken seriously because of the cloak and dagger angle. At least these guys are trying to do something while most pilots slowly circle the drain, resigned to our fates.

Let’s set the clock back few years.

Was it really a coincidence how the majors, at the same time, terminated their retirement plans, and cut pay and benefits?

Imagine if all pilots from every airline round the county formed one national union or association. Also imagine if all pilots of this “imaginary single national union” got wind of the erosion of pay, benefits, terms and conditions. Would the turn of events have been different if every pilot who was a member of this imaginary national union told their employers to go $hit in their hats at the suggestion of pay and benefit cuts?

With that being said, would this AA pilot be handing out leaflets?

Sadly as the information in the orange website points out the RLA prohibits exactly what you are suggesting. That is why ALPA is a association not a national union. The RLA is the biggest single threat to the long term viability of any Airline pilots job. Its being used in ways never intended when airlines came under its umbrella to abuse all the employees in this industry.

100% correct.

I'm all for anything that incorporates unity amongst out work group. Senior vs. Junior, Major vs. Regional, Line holder vs. Reserve.....bring on the unity!

Alpa is more unproffessional than management. They barely know they rep pilots

ggerritsen 07-03-2011 09:27 PM

As someone who is barely clinging to this industry, I hope this could change my outlook. I am a 135 pilot that is getting tired of the stress that this job puts on my family life. Something has to give, and I am afraid it will be that I may have to look outside of this profession to give my family the quality of life that we all want. I don't know where to look, but I also can't see how this profession can keep my family together the way it is now. Let's hope Operation Orange can give us all some kind of hope.

Not go to work...outside the auspices of the RLA...on an individual basis, ie...fall on your individual sword.

The predicted response will be, "Yeah, but not if we did it all at once, together." Okay, you first...:rolleyes:

As much as many don't care for elements of the RLA, we're still stuck with it. For those in a union environment, operating outside of it is strictly illegal and individually, one would be "toast."

A big "pair" would certainly make you the stuff of legend similar to the Eastern DC9 captain who parked the airplane, never to return about 25 years ago. However, you wouldn't gain much from it except short-term "satisfaction." And that would fade quickly.

Safe money has it that there is already a significant number wondering, "What DC9 captain?" The "fame" simply wouldn't last, nor would it be meaningful.

Well, old guy......I assume you're aware that pretty much every bit of the union movement in this country has it's roots in people with big ba!!s, who took big individual risks, and counted on the guy next to them to jump at the same time. Not to mention, lots of laws got broken in the process. You seem not to understand unionism.

Since you are a self-described "old guy", maybe you'd be willing to admit that your generation's concept of how this should work hasn't served us very well (collectively).

This was a thread on APC about 6 months ago. Is this Phase Two or are they still hung up on Newman/Redford in "The Sting" with the secret nose rub and nod in the terminal? That's somewhere between two and three notches above a huge inflatable rat on the professional scale.

Some Delta captain (who refused to shake my hand, probably because I'm not worthy) handed me a little business card with this Operation Orange stuff on it. I took a look, interesting read. But he's still a d-bag for acting all "mightier than thou."

If you have some Vol's gear on your bags, then you are already showing your support for it, albeit unknowingly.

OK, and then what? Theoretically the airline system comes to a halt from this chaos, and then what? Everyone goes back to work the next day and the airlines lose millions. What is the result this group is hoping for? What is the goal and how does this get us there?

The goal is passage of the "Fair Treatment of Experienced Pilots Act of 2011" -- legislation that would ammend the RLA, introduce real fatigue mitigation regulations, and reform the collective bargaining process. Take the time to read the material before passing judgement on their efforts.

Umm.. Maybe to show management we ARE ALL UNITED!! We can close the business for 1 day or however long we want. We are in charge, not some f'ing lawyer sitting in his office.

We aren't UNITED...These mainline guys can start treating this regional pilot like an equal, or he can go fornicate himself....Until he starts treating me like an equal, he can take his "operation orange" card and stick it where the sun don't shine....
