Default AA 99 question

AA 99 is a B772 that departs Heathrow for O'Hare at 7:45 AM. I'll be on that flight in a few weeks and I wondered what flight from the night before becomes AA 99? I assume it can't be a flight from ORD the day before because they arrive too late to turn around for that flight.

Just curious if any AA pilots knew that answer. If this is an inappropriate topic to discuss, I apologize in advance.

I was just interested in the logistical aspect of how planes are shuffled around to meet demands.

Sounds like a classic airliners.net question.
