Anyone know if the sync from the DALPA pubs (I haven't looked at it yet) will work with any of the new cloud services (iCloud, Amazon, etc)? Looks like Dropbox will.

Has anyone done it with a MacBook?

When I try to access the 320 files I get a 'damaged file' message. Did I do something wrong? It occurs with the Vol II and some others....

Apparently, the file server doesn't like anything Airbus either...:D

Well, no. I prefer women Ferd. :D

The neat part about iPubs is the ability to update your library with one push of the sync button. That comes from the GoodReader app and GoodReader is for the iPad and iPhone. Now you can join the shared folders in SugarSync with your computer and try that but really I think you'd be better off just downloading them yourself from Delta.

If you have tried to sync several times and you keep getting the same error at the same place about the best advise I can give is to send an email to DY (email address on the iPubs home page) and ask him for help.

iPubs Ground Rules

I'm the guy keeping the iALPA folder on iPubs. After reading through this thread I thought I'd post some guidelines and information that can help you get the most out of iPubs.

When this project started we had in mind a simple sync to an iPad or iPhone. Apart from the glitches in the SugarSync servers we have succeeded. Each of the Jedis who are keeping the files are in an ongoing effort to streamline the folders and make the synced folders as lean as possible.

First the iPubs site is www.ipubs.me . Since this is for Delta pilots the username and password are available in the iPubs thread of the Delta MEC Forum Computer section. The site has excellent and simple instructions on how to get a SugarSync account, subscribe to the folders, and setup the sync in GoodReader.

SugarSync has a mobile app for Android and BlackBerry. The problem is there is no android PDF reader that has the features and performance of GoodReader. The performance is key because iPubs has some very large PDF files. GoodReader is very fast and handles large files very well. GoodReader developers have posted on their site that there is no plan to produce an Android version of GoodReader.

Lately we have had problems with the SugarSync servers being unable to complete the sync process without crashing multiple times. We are working with SugarSync to determine the problem. Your initial sync will be fairly large. Subsequent syncs will be much smaller and quicker. For your initial sync make sure you are on a good wifi connection and plan on an hour to complete the process. It may not take nearly that long, but it could.

When you start a sync take time to watch for the file name being transferred and the amount of data remaining to be downloaded. If you get just one file downloaded successfully then your setup is correct. Many users get a failed sync (meaning NOT COMPLETE for the entire folder) and start deleting the setup or folders downloaded. There is no need for changing settings if ANY part of the download was successful. Simply wait a few minutes (or not) and re-start the sync. Normally the sync will resume from the point where the failure took place. It may take several re-starts to complete the entire folder sync. I don't like it, but it is where we are right now. Unfortunately, right now it is normal for it to take several sync attempt to complete your download. Patience please.

PC access: SugarSync will only allow for DOWNLOAD ONLY syncs to a PC. This means you have to download everything or nothing - not just files that have changed. Not ideal. SugarSync is geared to mobile devices syncing with the cloud.

Customizing Files: GoodReader allows you to customize files with annotations, etc.. This is great, except SugarSync synced folders cannot be changed. If you change a file name, move a file to a different folder, or make any other change to a file then your next sync will fail. DO NOT CHANGE, DELETE, RENAME, OR MOVE any file in your synced folders. If you want to keep a customized file, then COPY it to a folder you create outside of the Sync folder.

Folder size: On the iPubs site you can see the folder sizes. If you subscribe to the Fleet Common Files, your Aircraft Files, and the iALPA folder you will consume 1 to 1.5GB of the storage on your device.

Hopefully this will answer some of the questions and help you get started using the files.

Thanks guys, I have it on my iPad and it's super. I'm studying for CQ and was looking for a way to look at the training stuff on a bigger screen but the iPad is fine and what I was doing anyway....but no biggie getting it off Delta as you say.

Razor, your comment reminds me of the old joke:

Kid - Dad can you catch VD off a toilet seat?

Dad - Well son, I guess you can.....but it's a crazy place to take a girl:D

Again, thanks for all you have done getting this up and running!

I tried it fro two days straight with errors (756/IALPA). All the others files "sync'd" seemless-ly the first time and very quickly.

After maybe 100 tries and on the third day, the 756 "sync'd" quickly and perfect.

From what I hear:

a)if you have a slow internet connection the process might take a while or become an "error". (what happened to me)

b)if the file master is working on the files while you are trying to "sync" then you might get an error.

It was worth the multiple tries. IT is nice carrying 100lbs of books in a tiny IPAD! Now its time to learn how to hi-light and underline:eek:

I'm having trouble finding a username and password that works to get ipubs. Is it the one I used to get onto THIS forum? If so, that is not working. Help:confused:

You need to go to the DALPA forum, in the Computers/Hi-Tech section, and view the thread titled "iPubs for iPad 777, 767/757, MD88, 737, iALPA". The username and password for iPubs is in the first posting there.

Just thought I'd put this out there - Costco has the Vision Tablet available for $234. This is an incredible price for a good tablet. Still working on the iPubs & I'll update my progress. If anyone has the android sync figured out please post.

Thanks, Baja.

I actually still have it in the basement. The Tandy Zoomer was Marketed by Tandy (Radio Shack), made by Casio, and ran on Palm computing software. Didn't do to well but palm was able to make it through the next few years by marketing their synchronization software for Hp devices, and the Graffiti handwriting reconition software for the Apple Newton MessagePad.

http://img.ezinemark.com/imagemanage...-the-pric.jpeg

Palm was acquired by US Robotics in 1995. At that point Palm was able to launch many sucessful devices.

The US Robotics PalmPilot (circa 1995 - best $300 I spent at the time) was the first commercially successful PDA - I was the proud owner of one very shortly after it was released - it was awesome for its day - pocketable, readable (even with non backlit LCD), fully syncable with a desktop program (just pop it into its charging cradle and hit a button. No more changing out your personal planner every year. Too bad Palm couldn't build on its lead with that and the Treo series. Had a great head start on both Windows Mobile and later the iPhone.

Figured out the problem. I use an iPad and upgraded the software to iOS5 which damaged the links. Looked on the DALPA forum...the fix is to delete those shared folders from Goodreader then add them again. Works fine now.

A good technique is to do the initial download and then sync the files when you get an e-mail stating that there are updates. I have done this and I have not had any issues with syncing the files.

SierraWhiskey 11-10-2011 05:35 AM

So, if one wanted to load some training material via iPubs how would one go about it?

Cubdrick 11-10-2011 05:53 AM

visit www.ipubs.me

You'll need the username/password available in the computers/tech section of the dalpa forums (not from this website). www.ipubs.me will walk you through the setup and download process assisted with many screen shots so you can follow along with how things should be looking.

I have all the pubs loaded, but I want to add the LOD.

Which aircraft?

SierraWhiskey 11-10-2011 08:10 AM

I'm on the ER.

Cubdrick 11-26-2011 01:19 PM

I've haven't had any problems downloading and subsequently syncing all the ipubs folders.

Recently, whenever I sync the iALPA folder then immediately try to sync again it will resort to re-downloading roughly 27mb from the PBS or Notepad folder. Why does my Good Reader always think there's 27mb of new files?

Secondly, being recently displaced to the ER I repeatedly get a "Failed: Invalid server response: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden...." mid-download. I completely deleted and tried to reinstall the i756 folder with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Cubdrick

ANYBODY!!
For the last 2 weeks I have been trying to find directions to get sugar sync and good reader hooked up with DAL 320 pubs and have hit every brick wall out there! Are there any directions that actually work? Every thread I follow of this forum leads to a dead end. The ipubs.me page won't take the password I was told would work.

For security - go onto the DALPA forum and find the information you need there.

A little help

I have sugarsync and goodreader downloaded on my ipad. Following the instructions on the ipubs.me website I am unable to join the folders. Sugarsync keeps giving me an "unable to find the shared folder, it may have been deleted or unshared" message. What am I doing incorrectly?

Have you activated your SugarSync account? Once active, then go back to the iPubs site and click on the links to the folders you want. They should be there.

You join folders using FolderSync app.

-----------------

iPubs question. How do you keep it from grabbing all the files you don't want?

Must a guy set up a separate folder-pair to exclude all the back copies of Air Line Pilot, to get your Contract, Committee Reports and Contacts that you really want?

Not that I've got anything against "pilot of the year" Tim Martins, but I don't need him in my Transformer.

1. Log into DALPA forum.
2. Find the ipub.me ID/PASSWORD in the iPubs thread of the Delta MEC Forum Computer section. It is a NOT the ID/password used to get into DALPA or APC forums.
3. You will see step by step installation and setup instructions (including pics) once logged in.

Good luck, it's definitely worth the time. Only the first download takes any significant time, all subsequent updates are quick.
