If you have an iPad and are interested in an easy way to keep your entire Delta pubs library updated and current with the push of a single button, visit the iPubs home page to get started. (User name and password info on the DALPA Computer forum) It's a free service started by a Delta pilot (not me) to help Delta folks. The process is pretty straight forward and all the instructions are posted to get you going. You will need the GoodReader app which is $5 well spent.

Several of the fleets are up and running but still looking for people to volunteer to head up the 764, 747, DC9, 320 and 330 fleets.

 

I have been impressed with it.

 

Nothing groundbreaking IT wise, but when it all comes together it's like "magic."

Push sync and you are up to date with everything you need for training recurrent or on the line. I just hope the official solution works as well...

How much space does all the PDFs take up for the iPubs? Is it enough to be noticeable on a 16gb iPad?

I have spent a few minutes (2 hours to be exact) on this iPUBS. I have successfully downloaded everything but IALPA and 756..Few minutes into the download the server konks out. I have even erased the "botched" IALPA and 756 to redo it and still get the "i756/ Failed:Invalid server response: HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" message..

For anyone using the iPad for any document collection (including company PDF manuals), the Good Reader app + Dropbox is the way to go.

Dropbox is a secure online file syncing service that offers 2Gig of online storage free (more space is available for a fee). Good Reader for the iPad connects with your Dropbox account and syncs effortlessly.

The workflow is as follows:

Download or place any files that you want to sync to your iPad into the Dropbox folder on your computer. In Good Reader, select the folder and press "sync". All the files on your computer are copied to your iPad - so easy a pilot could do it.

I'm guessing that the Delta iPub service is a shared online folder similar to what I described above. If you have an iPad and you don't have Good Reader, you're missing out!

Any advantage of using Goodreader over iBooks?

Goodreader syncs over WiFi, iBooks can only sync when connected to the computer via iTunes (unless they fixed it). Goodreader will open virtually every media file type, iBooks not even close. Goodreader allows you to annotate, highlite, attach notes, bookmark, and outline files. iBooks allows you to read an iPub document.

I've used both apps, iBooks doesn't come close to offering the features in Goodreader.
