Default Best Pay With The Most Time Off?

1. Aircraft Pilots, Copilots, and Flight Engineers
> Hours worked/year: 1,090
> Median hourly earnings: $119.12
> No. employed: 68,580
> Hours worked/week: 21
> Median annual income: $103,210
> Top annual income: $139,330
According to the BLS, “FAA regulations limit flying time of airline pilots of large aircraft to a maximum of 100 hours a month and 1,000 hours a year. Most airline pilots fly an average of 75 hours a month and work an additional 140 hours a month, performing nonflying duties, which includes waiting for delays to clear and their aircraft to arrive.” According to the BLS’s national compensation survey, only two jobs have shorter annual hours worked — flight instructors and lifeguards. Pilots work almost 50% fewer hours than the average America, but make the 21st highest median annual salary among the 819 positions listed on the BLS list of occupations.

The public just doesn't have a clue how much we make and how much we work. Then you have "journalists" misreporting it. 75 hours plus "an additional 140 hours per month" adds up to 2,580 hours per year. If the median annual income is $103,210 as reported above, then the median hourly earnings are $40/hour, not $119.

This month, I did about 8 hours in 3 days, plus 7 in the office. Let's just say my annual income is well above the survey's top income.

The management/wallstreet propoganda machine is alive & well, & they are much more adept at publishing their agenda then we are.

No true! 11 of those were scheduled days off, known in advance. Any unscheduled days end at 1700. In 7 years, called three times, for the next day. No commuting, no bidding, no BS. I also have 4 weeks vacay that I don't need to bid for and get in March or Sept. The airlines haven't been the best jobs in aviation for nearly 20 years

My worst day at the airlines cannot compare to my best day flying corporate, maybe in the 15 plus years I did it I just had bad luck choosing jobs, I don't know. But I did it long enough to know that I don't ever want to deal with that b.s. again

I did 4+ at EAL, which cured me of any enthusiasm for airlines. Ours is good enough for 4 airline guys to resign rather than be recalled and to attract 3 airline check airmen to apply.

Yes, we have bad days and good, we don't have pop-up trips at all, the "last minute" call (day prior) have been to replace sick guys. I don't deal with airport security (I'd last about two days with it), a 20 minute drive to work. We have 3 crews per plane.

That's misleading. Lifeguards spend decades at entry-level swimming jobs before the national pool companies will even consider hiring them.

I'm glad you have found a good corporate gig, you did 4 years at a bad airline job and I did over 15 years at several corporate gigs and I can assure you that you will not have any competition from me for a corporate job, ever. I'm perfectly happy with letting you be happy
