Question AlPA Asking for more MONEY!

Here we go again! ALPA wants more money to be set aside for possible merger committee with whom ever we at NWA may merge with. Is your ALPA MEC making a bank account for your pilot group to do battle should this consolidation program go into action? Just wondering, if your union is demanding money also. MEC scared to death of what's nexted so they approved the assessment, now we vote as a pilot group? YES or NO. What do you think?

Yes, I think each MEC is going to start a war chest to use during a merger. Ironically, all the current potential mergers among former legacy carriers are all represented by ALPA.

Is this proof that the merger policy is broken?

Default money to burn

any money any junior (bottom 1/2) pilot contributes at nwa will be used to finance the job protection of senior pilots when amr purchases the nwa-asia operation. of course unless there are strings attached to how this money/assesment will be used. alpa needs some accountability as at has been highly irresponsible.

Let the senior guys pay for it. We junior guys are gonna get screwed again like we did on the contract.

Crewdawg. I too am a NWA pilot. IMHO you need the biggest..baddest...most financed merger committee if you are going to do a merger with the likely candidates; CAL, DAL, AMR, USair. I am an A-320 CA. The merger assesment works out for me at around $31/month. Hell I spend that much on a decent layover!. Try to look beyond the damage and carnage that occured with this forced contract and look to the future....Ripper

We just finished the merger assessment here at Delta. It will be money well spent if a merger happens. If not, the money will be refunded. I'm hoping for a refund.

If past ALPA 'mergers' are any guide, my advice is to forego the dues and spend that money on Vaseline.

You are likely to need it.

when 2 alpa carriers merge, alpa cannot allowed either carrier to use their alpa counsel for that merger representation, so they both have to hire their own outside counsel.

also, no money from their respective council budget that's "given" to them by alpa can be used to pay for that merger legal help, hence, they all need their own lawyers and to pay for them they need an assesment.

whomever has the best lawyer gets the better deal. OJ and Blake taught us that.

I didn't think it was possible for the junior guys to get any more screwed than they already are! But then again...it is NWA!

Please keep in mind that Unions are NOT non-profit organizations. That being said, there most definately is a place for unions in our industry, like them or not. They are for profit organizations....however, imagine life without them. Pilots would be working in very unsafe conditions for very unsatisfactory wages. Pay the extra dues and consider it an investment in you future....

Cheers
